My Daughter's Story

Posted On Sunday, November 14, 2010  by shadow205

I first came here in 2004 and found the friendliest, most compassionate and helpful people that you could find anywhere. I was concerned about my daughter who had developed Pre-E late in her pregnancy. Before it was over with she went on to develop HELLP & Sheehan's Syndrome. She also had continuing medical problems post part om. It took about a year and a half for her blood pressure to return to normal and for her adrenal gland to begin producing cortisol again. I am not goin... Read more

Multiple Blessings

Posted On Wednesday, November 10, 2010  by Anna

My pregnancy was one surprise after another.  We planned to get pregnant, but that was as far as "our plan" went.  We only saw one heartbeat at the first ultrasound, but at the second ultrasound, they showed me two babies.  I started having contractions around 22 weeks and was put on terbutaline pills.  That was about the same time my blood pressure started creeping up.  Because it is normally very low - 90s/50s, my husband kept asking the doctors if it wasn't a little too high... Heidi Lynn Hillman-Mueller

Posted On Wednesday, November 10, 2010  by Cindi

Heidi was a very healthy 34 year old woman expecting her first baby in November of 2008. On November 7th Heidi checked into the hospital with Labor pains, once they did the lab work, they realized how bad it was and deciided to go ahead and do a C-Section. Abby was born a healthy 7lb 3 oz baby girl. We got to go into to see Heidi around 4:00 PM but were told not to excite Heidi as they were trying to keep the blood pressure under control. At 7:30 they put Heidi in the ICU to observe her for 2... Read more

They say you don’t know how strong you are until you actually have to be strong. And to be honest, the last time I ever felt strong was after my daddy died. It was almost like a forced strength because everyone and everything else around me was crumbling before my eyes. In some strange way, I think I carried that same strength throughout the years, just saving it for the moment that I would need it again. And surely did I need it beginning February 5, 2010. It’s funny how someti... Read more

My Story

Posted On Friday, November 05, 2010  by Chris

I was discharged from the hospital 9 days post-partum, after 4 days of IV iron bolices, and some sort of hemoglobin shot to help get my blood chemistry going in the right direction, with a j-tube to keep draining all the fluid that had third-spaced into my abdominal cavity.  Post-surgery, besides the 40 mg of Lasix I was receiving via IV daily to start getting the water retention off; over 3 litres of fluid, (word picture: over 3 bottles of pop) came out through the j-tube in my abdomen.Â... My name is Lisette and I am 36 years old, I reside in New York City. It all started in 1996 when I was just 22 years old, I was working and hardly rested...was stress due to work. At about 24 weeks my body started acting funny. I recall being in the pool and getting these horrible pains around my shoulder and arm. I was rushed to the hospital where later that day I was told that I had preeclampsia. They gave me 3 shots of steroids to help with the babys growth. After being admitted for 1 w... Read more

Surviving Preeclampsia and Learning to Live

Posted On Wednesday, November 03, 2010  by Renee

I am a severe preeclampsia survivor. I still dream about January 18, 2006.  I vividly hear the shrill of my daughter's heart alarm as her tiny heart has stopped beating from inside me, I feel my body convulse uncontrollably, and I see the panic in the nurse's eyes as she yells for help.  The last thing I remember before the anesthesiologist put me out was staring into the harsh glare of the operating room lights and crying to myself - is this how it all ends?  ... I had my first child, Brook-lynn, on February 14, 2007. I had just turned 19. That pregnancy was great! No problems at all. I just gained 90+ lbs, because I took the phrase eating for two literally! Then, I became pregnant with my second child, Cheyenne. Everything with that pregnancy was going great.....or so I thought! About 33 weeks into my pregnancy I started seeing flashing spots in my vision and I grew more and more dizzy. So for about a week I just ignored it and said to mys... Read more

Hey my name is Jessica. I got pregnant when I was 22 years old and throughout my entire pregnancy I was sick 24/7. I found out I was pregnant a week into it so it felt like I was pregnant forever. Anyways through out my pregnancy I was sick day and night the first 2 months I had lost 20 lbs. I couldn't keep anything down and I was in and out of the hospital for dehydration and would stay a day or two and go home. Seemed like no pill would help me. I work at the hospital myself. And I work 12 hou... Read more

Posted On Tuesday, September 14, 2010  by

My son was born in early March of 2010. I was only 28 weeks pregnant. I had suspected Preeclampsia due to the 12 pounds I gained in two weeks. When a urine test and blood pressure check confirmed it, I cried and cried. I was terrified for my baby, I had never considered prematurity before. I was ambulanced to Toronto and monitored continuously. I felt like a pincushion and was trying very hard to remain calm. My husband stayed with me the whole time in my room. We were trying to wrap our... Read more

Posted On Tuesday, September 14, 2010  by

I had a "normal" pregnancy other than the fact that I was hyperemic in the first trimester.  I was considered an "elderly" OB at the time because I was 34 years old.  I did not gain a great deal of weight during the pregnancy, only 28 pounds.  I led an active life working as the Supervisor of a small hospital Blood Bank.  I had expected my baby to be born sometime early in June.  It was still May and the doctor seemed content with the progression of the pregnancy, in fac... My name is Diane Williams, and I am a mother of a preeclampsia survivor and a healthy currently 13 month old granddaughter, Lilleonah.Kata had an almost perfect pregnancy. At 36 weeks, Lille stopped moving. She had been very active since about 18 weeks. Martin,( Kata's boyfriend and Lille's dad) Kata, and I went to the L&D. Her BP was okay and they took a urine sample. The nurses were able to get the fetal kicks and we were sent home about 2 hours later with Kata's ... Read more

Posted On Wednesday, September 08, 2010  by

It all started Thursday May 13, 2010. It was a day that would forever change my life and the way I look at things. The day before I had a scheduled ultrasound to look at how my baby was growing because I was very small for how far along I was. I had only gained 10 pounds and I was already at week 30. Everything seemed to check out fine and the only thing the ultrasound tech could find was that my little boy was just small for his gestational age. That would all ... Read more

Hi,Actually I'm looking for ways to prevent preeclampsia from happening again in subsequent pregnancy. My preeclampsia story began during my first pregnancy with my dear son in 2004. He died in the womb at 28 weeks. At that time I didn't know anything about preeclampsia. Then when I got pregnant again with my 2nd son in 2005, I was referred to a specialist. He prescribed me to take aspirin (not sure already the dose), and thanks God, hypertension and preeclampsia did not recur. I deliver my ... Read more

Posted On Thursday, September 02, 2010  by

Six months after getting married, I found out I was pregnant. The day I confirmed my pregnancy with a blood test, I lost the pregnancy. I was devastated. One week after my miscarriage, I went in for a routine followup. My blood pressure was elevated. My doctor assumed it was because of the trauma from the miscarriage. I continued to monitor my blood pressure at home and had bimonthly doctor visits for the next six weeks. My blood pressure returned to normal and was told we could try to conceive ... Read more

My pregnancy was going ok until around 24 weeks when I started to get edema

Posted On Thursday, September 02, 2010  by

My pregnancy was going ok until around 24 weeks when I started to get edema in my legs and feet. The edema got so bad I couldn't kneel down or cross my legs without being in severe pain. I could only wear sandals because other shoes hurt so bad. If I pushed the skin on my shin with my finger, the indentation would stay there for a while. Every time I visited the doctor, my blood pressure was elevated. I never had protein in my urine when I visited the doctor. When we got to the hospital the... Read more
