I went on a family reunion cruise when I was about 22 weeks pregnant. The night of the captain's dinner I had to carry my shoes to dinner because my feet were so swollen. As the cruise progressed so did the swelling. With the advice from all the women around me I went and saw the ship's doctor. He checked my bp and for protein in my urine, both were fine but he stressed to me to follow up with my ob/gyn when I got home. I saw my ob/gyn the week I returned and was told that the edema was d... Read more

I like many others had pre-eclampsia. I was a very healthy person with normal blood pressure. I also showed signs that my doctor had over looked, what she called weight gain wasnt it was in fact my body filling up with fluids. I also started getting the headaches which come from elevated blood pressure but they were tolerable so I never took it as a sign of any thing. At 27 weeks I went to the hospital where they took my blood pressure and it was 210/180 they freaked when they got that reading a... Read more

I will never forget the day preeclampsia entered my life. My pregnancy was full of obstacles from the start. I bled for the first three months. We were told that our baby tested for Down Syndrome when in fact the nurse performed the test too soon. I was happy they discovered their mistake, but still the stress was overwhelming, probably because I had suffered a miscarriage with a Trisomy baby.I think that once I finally got settled into my pregnancy and begin to relax and enjoy it that'... My story is two-fold really, my unborn child had health issues and then I developed preeclampsia. My son's issues were severe, not many babies with them survive - he was one of the first that some of his nurses had ever seen make it despite the odds.On Octoboer 4, 2000, I went into my OB, accompanied by a good friend, for a check-up at 30 weeks. Even though the outlook for my son was grave, we continued on as if all was fine. I never went to appointments alone, it was too hard to be a... Read more

I knew before I ever tried to get pregnant that I had Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). I was an extremely well-informed patient, and I had excellent care with a local OB/GYN that I trusted implicityly and a perinatologist that was a well-known APS researcher. My first pregnancy ended with a missed miscarriage at 14 weeks, but I was confident that my second pregnancy would be the one that worked.About 17 weeks into my pregnancy, I experienced a day where all I did all day was throw up. I ... Read more

On Monday, April 29, 2002, I went to work as usual. I had my 30-week prenatal check-up at 11:30 that morning and when I left the office, I told my boss I'd be back in about an hour. I felt perfectly fine. My doctor weighed me, did all the normal tests, and everything was as usual (although I was upset at having gained 7 lbs in the two weeks since my last prenatal appointment, but my doctor didn't even mention my weight gain to me). We chit-chatted as she checked my blood pressure, but then he... Read more

my story started at 28 weeks at a routine scan. My baby was found to wiegh approx 2lb 14 oz. My midwife thought it was a litle small and recommended me to come for another scan at 32 weeks (4 weeks time). It was a hot July and my whole body was swelling. This normally happened to me every summer anyway and I thought nothing of it. I went for my scan when I was 32 weeks pregnant and my little girl was still exactly the same wieght. As this was my second child - the first bei... Read more

My son was born at 28 weeks gestation. I went to the dr for a routine check up and it was discovered that I have the symptoms of preeclampsia. I was instructed to go to the hospital immediately. They did a sonogram and put me on bed rest. Later that evening, about 2 hours later, I went into a seizure. My son had to be delivered by emergency c-section.He weighed 2 lbs 8 oz. He spent his first 3 months in the hospital's NICU. The first 2 months he was in an isolate and some days we ... Read more

My husband and I decided to have a baby after a year of marriage. I conceived immediately and had a trouble free pregnancy except for severe morning sickness in the first trimester.I kept my prenatal appointments faithfully and routine blood pressure and urine tests were fine. Blood pressure was slightly elevated, but my obstetrician told me that was normal in most people.A routine ulta-sound at 20 weeks showed the baby to be a few days too small for gestation age but everything... This was our first pregnancy and I was 34 weeks pregnant, working full time for a high risk pregnancy home healthcare agency as the office manager. The morning of January 4, 2001, I was extremely emotional crying at nothing, I didn't understand why I was so anxious. I just thought that I was tired and didn't want to go to work. I still had 6 weeks left and I had just begun training the woman that would be replacing me after I left to be a full time mother. I drove my husband to work... Read more

My due date was 02/05/02. I had developed GD and had to go on insulin shots. They sat an induction date for 01/25/02 to reduce the risk of still born. I was one of the lucky ones that was being monitored very closley cuz of the GD. I had an appt. 2 times a week to check my health and the health of our baby boy. On Monday, 01/21/02 I went to my appt. They checked the baby and all was well. They did my bp and the nurse just looked at me and said she did something wrong and needed to retake ... Read more

I am writing this to let everyone out there know that there is hope!I was 19 years old when I got pregnant with my daughter, Nicole. I had only been married for not even a year, I was so excited. I made all of my regular appointments and did everything that my doctor told me to do. After Christmas, I was around 18 weeks I began to swell, and notice that my shoes would not fit, ect. I went to my doctor and she took my blood pressure (bp) and it was high, and I was spilling protein int... Read more

I was thrilled to find out that I was pregnant and I had wanted this for so long. I had just broke my back 3 months earlier and was doing fine, but needed a happiness in my life. At 20 weeks, we found out we were having a little boy! How wonderful this would be. I continued going to my monthly doctors appointments feeling great and at my 24 week appointment, my doctor told me I had protein in my urine and that my blood pressure was fine. I went home on bedrest, but thought everything would be fi... Read more

I have been a Labor and Delivery nurse for five years and never expected to experience anything like I did. I do feel in a way that even though it was an awful experience it was a blessing. I had a healthy baby girl and I am able to personally relate to my patients who have preeclampsia now. My story happened 8 months ago. I started getting sick at about 30 weeks gestation. My blood pressures started creeping up slowly. I was nauseous through my whole pregnancy. I also started having a lot... Read more

Hi, my name is Jennica Pritchard. On August 14th, 2001, I went ot my doctor for a routine visit. The nurse took my blood pressure and seemed very concerned. She had me lay down on my left side and left to get my doctor. My doctor came in and took my blood pressure again. She told me that I was spilling protein and my blood pressure was very high. She said that she was getting a wheel chair and she wanted to admit me. Being the emotinal person I am, I started to cry. I had had a very smooth... Read more

My story is a little older than most probably - my son was born in 1985! However I have recently been dx'd with a deep vein thrombosis and I am discovering there is a correlation between this and having had pre-eclampsia that I have just begun to rsarch, so it has reactivated my interest in this disease.I had toxemia throughout the latter half of my first pregnancy. I was allowed to go into labor and did not progress. I was given oxytocin drip IV and continued... Read more
