First of all, I would like to apologize for the length of my story. Because I went through so many challenges with virtually every organ in my body shutting down, I felt it necessary to describe how the Preeclampsia progressed and almost caused my death.
My name is Eva Lacey I live in a suburb of Chicago, being located approximately 15 miles west of downtown.
I was prompted to share my story because sadly, over the years, I have read small articles on a periodic basis, in ...

I was diagnosed with Insulin dependent diabetes in 9/96 at age 28. In August of 1997, I became pregnant with my first child. The pregnancy went fine, diabetes wise, and I managed on 4-5 shots a day. I saw my perinatologist/OB every 2-3 weeks until week 24, when my blood pressure started increasing, and I began to have significant swelling in my legs and face. The plan was to see my OB every week after that to keep close tabs on my bp and other symptoms. By 26 weeks, I was put on bed rest bec...

I find myself compelled to write my story for two important reasons, the first being the fact that my family doctor has recently suggested I have my tubes tied and the second being how thankful I am for having a healthy and wonderful little girl named Sara.I became pregnant with Sara when I was 20 and just like any first-time mother, I was scared and excited at the same time. Unknown to me, my great-grandmother had died of eclampsia, my grandmother had pre-eclampsia, and my mother also ...

I was doing great with my pregnancy. I was eating good and on a very strict diet, no caffiene, choclate, or fatty foods. I exercised on a regular basis. After about 30 weeks all I could do was swim because the baby was on my nerve. I was one day shy from being 39 weeks pregnant and I had an appointment to go to the doctors for my weekly check up. I was feeling miserable. I did not no exactly what was wrong, but I knew something was not right. I start with my urinalysis........

At 22 weeks my blood pressure had gone up for about 1 week but I had no other symptoms of Preeclampsia so my doctor was not worried. At 34 weeks I felt incredibly tired but thought it was normal for late pregnancy. That evening I got what I thought was really bad heartburn but this pain was relentless. I waited and waited and it only got worse. At 4:15 am I called my Doctor's exchange and they said to go in to the Hospital. I was admitted and diagnosed with Severe Preeclampsia with HELLP and th...

I was 27 weeks pregnant with my second child andI went to my doctor's office just because I wasn't feeling "right". My Doctor took my blood pressure and did the urine test and immediately sent me to the hospital. I spent the next 5 days in the hospital. I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. I was told to lay on my left side and I was given steroid shots to help my very premature baby's lungs mature. They did an ultra sound to see how the baby was developing, they predicted the baby...

I developed preeclampsia at 19 weeks w/my first pregnancy. I had twins w/one growth restricted by 3 weeks, she died in-utero at 23 weeks. I went on to have a placental abruption and emergency c-section at 27 weeks, and developed severe HELLP syndrome. My daughter, Aubrey Nicole, lived 15 days in the NICU.I never knew pregnancy could be so complicated. I was diagnosed w/twins at 19 weeks after my AFP came back elevated. My OB referred me to a perinatologist since one twin was 3 wks behind...

This story is dedicated to my mother, Pauline who guided me through what i thought was the worst time of my life.Up until the age of 22 I classed myself as a fit and healthy female, ideal weight for my height, never been ill apart from the odd cold and never showed any signs of being unwell. I suffered period pains like anyone else although the pain would started up to a week before my period, it gradually got worse each time and in 1999 a Laparoscopy revealed I had Polycystic ovarian S...

When I was 17 years old, I found out that I was pregnant. I was so scared, I did not even tell my parents - and during the course of my 9 month pregnancy, I gained little weight and did not show. Of course, I had no pre-natal care. One night in June of 1988 - when I was full term - I felt very ill. The next thing I remember, I was in the hospital. My father had heard my waterbed sloshing around - and when he came in my room, I was having seizures. He called the ambulance, and they flew me...

I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia in my 8th month of pregnancy, in November of 1974. First they tried bedrest with 5 mg. of phenobarbitol daily; then 10 mg. Finally I was admitted to the hospital on December 11, where I was treated with more phenobarb, morphine and magnesium sulfate. My BP was checked every 15 minutes; and when it would rise above a certain reading, I was given IV pushes of mag sulfate. My son was due December 25, but was deemed a good weight for a Pitocin-induced delivery on D...

I was expecting a baby boy June 1st, 1995 and everything seemed to be going fine until Monday, April 10th. I had just entered the 32nd week of my pregnancy. I became very ill in the middle of the night and thought I might be going into labor. Since it was my first child, I really didn...

I got pregnant with my first child when I was 27. I had a wonderful pregnancy. At least it was until the 34th week. I had a regular appointment with my doctor, and I had noticed my feet swelling a little after taking a field trip with my fifth graders to Universal Studios. So, when he saw me, I noticed a funny look go across his face when he looked at my blood pressure. He told me (and this is a direct quote), "To the hospital you go." I was terrified. I had no clue what was going...

I wake up 35 weeks into my pregnancy with a very sharp pain in my upper chest on the right hand side. It is late Sunday night and by Monday morning - I feel no better, so I call in sick to work and then call my OB. In my small city, our OB's do not work on Monday's - there was one on call - however I don't really think I am an emergency situation. I really just think I have bbad heartburn.I decide to call my GP. He sees me right away and suspects that it is my gallbladder, so he sends me...

my husband and I had been trying for a baby for about eight months when we finally concieved in february '01.I guess you can say that this, my first pregnancy , was jinxed right from the very start. It took us a while to concieve because I had recently been diagnosed with having an under-active thyroid gland which was making my periods very erratic. when I was about three weeks pregnant I had radiation dye put through my viens so I could have x-rays taken of my kidney which was swollen due t...

It all started just like many others; this was my second pregnancy and everything seemed to be going just like normal. I was 34 1/2 weeks pregnant and I started to have pains in my stomach, and the on call doctor advised me to get some bed rest and drink plenty of fluids. I did this for 4 days and the pain wasn't getting any better, still the doctor said bed rest and fluids was my best bet. At midnight on June 4,2002, I awoken to a heavy feeling in my stomach and as I stood up my wate...
