Brian Anthony Metler 1 lb, 2 oz, 11 in Born Jan 1, 2002, at 22 weeks gestation due to severe PE/HELLP. Died after 32 minutes due to respiratory failure caused by extreme prematurity. My pregnancy with Brian had been completely uneventful until Christmas, 2001. While I'd had the typical morning sickness in the first trimester, after about 16 weeks, everything had gone well. Because of a severe genetic condition in the family, we had wanted genetic counseling and testing performed, and whe...

My story begins on Wednesday, February 25, 1998 when I woke up to get ready for work. At the age of 23 (and healthy I might add) this was my first pregnancy. All had been going well - very uneventful. I was just so happy (I had always wanted to be a mother) and nothing bothered me; if I was having some discomfort I kept on smiling. I never complained. I had been quite swollen for a few weeks prior but on this day everything had fallen apart. I was not due for another 3 ...

My 26-week Pre-E story, and my 36 week twins Pre-E Story... I entered my pregnancy blissfully ignorant of the things that could go wrong. Once I knew this baby had a beating heart (I had miscarried 6 weeks prior to this pregnancy), I put aside all fears. I was determined to never whine or run to the doctor for every little thing. That was defiantly the wrong attitude to take. At 20 weeks the Doctor became concerned with my blood pressure. I brushed him off. I figured I was just so busy w...

At the age of 20 I got pregnant. I didn't go to the doctor until I was about 3 months. When the doctor told me my due date, I was thrilled. It was around my belated mother's birthday. Every time I went to the doctor I had blood drawn and urine samples taken. I ended up having lots of protein in my urine causing me to do two 24 hour urine samples. Then my blood pressure was going up. I was only in my 22nd week. So, my doctor had me do my 2nd ultrasound to see if the baby was doing OK. I had to go...

I had morning sickness throughout most of my pregnancy. I developed bad sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and a similar disorder in my feet. I started noticing swelling around the fifth month that got progressively worse. I had terrible heartburn. I had difficulties breathing even when sitting. I started having contractions two weeks prior to his due date. I finally went into labor on his due date. He was not born until the next day. My blood pressure had risen during the labor. I was in signifi...

My story can entail several categories - love, personal change and faith. As far as love goes, I learned how very much my husband, family and friends love me and saw what lengths they all went to to help me pull through my illness. After what happened to me, I learned that life is too short to let the little things get to me like they had in the past. I don't get as angry and uptight as I used to and I try (although I'm still working on it) to stay calmer and more relaxed about things. As for fa...

In 200, I had a 32 week old baby because my doctor didn't catch my preeclampsia. No one tells you about this problem, and I also had liver problems. I had severe pain and gained 25 pounds of water weight. I knew something was wrong, but everyone said it was normal and did not even believe me. An instinct sent me to my doctor and sent me to the hospital, thank god, because another week would have been too late for me or my daughter. We need to talk about this subject and let pregnant wome...

When I was seven months pregnant I began having terrible headaches. My midwife told me that it was normal for a pregnant person to have headaches. My chest pain was misdiagnosed as pleurisy and I was told that I was gaining ten pounds a week because I was eating more although I said that I wasn't. I wasn't diagnosed with preeclampsia until two days after my due date. I was told to go to the hospital immediately. I had no I idea what was happening because no one had ever explained what pr...

I was 23 when I had my first child. I started swelling up early in my third trimester. When I started gaining 8 pounds in two weeks and had to stop wearing shoes because my feet were so swollen, I talked to my doctor, who told me to cut back on my work schedule. Christmas at a large retail store is not the time to tell your manager that you can't work as much. Luckily, they were understanding. Of course, I was showing up to work in my slippers because my shoes didn't fit. The mor...

Hello and God Bless to fellow Preeclampsia or Hellp Syndrom sufferers! I was 37 weeks pregnant by the time I REALIZED something was wrong in my pregnancy. I knew something was wrong when my face was red every afternoon, and my hands were so swollen in the mornings that I could barely bend my fingers, but the doctors said it was normal pregnancy stuff. At my normal 38 week checkup, the doctor realized my blood pressure was high, so he suggested inducing pregancy using pitocin in a...

My name is April and I was 22 years old at the time I gave birth to my daughter, Allison. I am half caucasion, and half asian-pacific islander. I am a heavy-set girl, although no medical problems have ensued from that fact in my entire life. This was my second pregnancy (my first resulted in a miscarriage at 15 weeks). I had had no problems or issues at all during either of my pregnancies until I was 28 weeks along with Allison. It all began on Friday, April 12th when I was to be seen by...

SURVIVALA MOM'S STORY OF CONTINUED EXISTENCE AND ENDURANCE We are all caught up in the "Survivor" shows and what humans will do to win the 'jackpot'. I would like to tell you my story, and what it takes for me to survive one day at a time. On April 28th, 1999, I was on Cloud 9, having given birth to a beautiful baby boy. I felt like I had just won a million dollars in the lottery. But on May 3, 1999 disaster struck! I had suffered a severe intercranial hemorrhage as a...

I was in perfect health. May 21, 1984 was my due date. I didn't make it that long - by April 5 I could no longer work. I was very ill and exhausted and I didn't know why. Two weeks before I delivered, my doctor forgot to take my blood pressure. I had some swelling around my ankles and was gaining a lot of weight. I told the nurse practitioner and she didn't do anything. My doctor told me to cut down on my eating. I was 29 years old and this was my first baby. By the following week I had ...

I had different forms of pre-eclampsia in 2 of my 3 pregnancies. With my first preganacy, at age 33, I noticed that my feet were really swelling at work one day, at about 31 weeks. My doctor told me to come in first thing the next morning for a blood pressure check. When I went in, my BP was elevated and there was some protein in my urine. He told me to go straight home and lay down on my left side, and not to go back to work. Since it was the last day before a week off for the December holidays...

I can't believe that I have waited almost 6 years to write my pregnancy story/Conner's birth story. I have started it so many times, but just couldn't seem to get through it. I'm going to this time, though. I was 17 when I got pregnant with Conner. His dad and I were high school sweethearts, and had every intention of getting married someday. We were careful, and used protection, but it's not foolproof. I conceived him on February 8, 1994. It took me less than 24 hours to realize I w...
