It's always hard to start, but seeing my 2 year daughter running around calling me mammy pushes me to sign in and share my painful experience with everybody and specially with moms who's babies are still in the NICU.After two years of marriage, my husband and I thought that it was time to start a family.Being pregnant is the biggest responsibility I ever had in my life. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia no symptoms other than a little raised blood pressure and signs of elevated sugar I guess. I don't remember. I was young when I was pregnant at 19 years old with my first child survived. At 23 with my second child survived, the same hospital delivered. I was very well taken care of both times and went full term no complications and I was monitored very well.I look back after going through preeclampsia at 40 years old with major symptoms and with horrible ca... My name Is Abigail S. I was a young woman expecting a baby at 19 years old. I didn't find out my body was developing a child until I was about 4 to 5 months pregnant. It wasn't until after I started going to my doctor visits regularly and taking my prenatal vitamins did I feel fine. I thought to myself, "Man this pregnancy is going to be a walk in the park."  I, like many other young mothers did not know anything about preeclampsia and was concerned and worried when I started to ga... My story begins 8 years ago, my husband and I were expecting our first baby together. My pregnancy began as a typical pregnancy with morning sickness and water retention or so I thought. About 12 weeks into my pregnancy I began to become ill with blurred vision, pain around my kidney area and vomiting. I had just been in for a doctor's appointment and made another one. They set me up for a sonogram for the next day, September 11, 2001.I did not make it to my sonogram appointment. I had s... Read more

Up until about 30 weeks my pregnancy had been wonderful. Correct amounts of weight gain and healthy looking baby. My problems started around 30 weeks and it consisted mostly of headaches that would not go away and a constant upper right quadrant pain. The pain became so intense to the point of not being able to sleep an living off Tylenol. I had had a touch of bronchitis before and my doctor believed I was having some pain from that. At my 35 week checkup at the health department I was ... Read more

I survived but our son did not. He was stillborn at 34 weeks. I had an appointment at my doctor's office two days before this happened and the nurse indicated in the medical record that there was protein in my urine sample which told them that there was a problem with my kidneys. She did not tell the doctor of this and I was sent home to rest rather than be hospitalized to be observed. Two days later I became very ill with pressure in my abdominal area. I went to see my doctor who sent me to ... Read more

I had my first child at a young age, 18 years old. I was having a girl. Everything was going well up until my 25th week of pregnancy. I started to notice my ankle swelling for a few days. I thought I was retaining water but wasn't. I woke up on May, 21, 2009 and my whole body was swollen. I went to the nearest hospital. I was there for a little over 3 hours and the doctor came in and told me I had preeclampsia and was being sent to a hospital in Pontiac. So I went and four days later, at onl... Read more

My daughter was born on February 20, 1990.  I was 20 years old and in excellent physical condition at the time of my pregnancy.  The last three weeks before I was due I was getting terrible headaches, had protein in my urine, swelling hands/feet/face and my blood pressure was very high.  I woke up early the morning of 2/18/90 and had horrible pain.  I had never given birth or been through labor so I thought that was what the pain was from.  Upon further examination it tu... When I became pregnant with my son in the summer of 2008, everything seemed like a dream. I had an absolutely perfect pregnancy. I experienced minimal morning sickness, did not gain very much weight, and basically felt physically amazing. As I neared my due date, I became pretty confident that things were going to be cake, as everything else had been. When I went to my 37 week checkup, I felt great and was looking forward to another perfect appointment. That was when the nurse looked concerned w... Read more

I have had two battles with preeclampsia.  The first was with my son, who was also my first pregnancy.  I went along with a fairly normal pregnancy.  I did have a lot of swelling and weight gain, but my Dr kept telling me that was normal.  It was at my 38 week check up that they couldn't get my baby to move during the NST and my blood pressure was high, so they sent me over to another office to have an emergency ultrasound to make sure the baby was ok.  He looked good, b...    It all started Sunday, Jan 31st.  I woke up early in the morning, around 6 a.m. feeling really sick. I thought it was the usual routine of morning sickness because I had morning sickness throughout the entire pregnancy. My boyfriend started to get concerned because he thought I was dehydrated from all the the vomiting and nausea. I decided to call my OB and ... A year ago, I was feeling pains in my stomach. I was pregnant for the first time and thought... maybe these were just Braxton Hicks, but I started noticing my urine was getting darker and darker and it caused concern. I wasn't sure what was going on because I was a model patient. I hadn't had any problems in my first 32 weeks of pregnancy. We went to the doctor and they found there was a high level of protein in my urine and my blood pressure was elevated. I met with the doctor and ... Read more

A happy, healthy married woman, I was 21 years old when we found out we were going to have our first baby! We were over the moon! I got pregnant in late may 2009 and was given a due date of February 26th 2010. I would be 22 at the time. I was being sent to a high risk practice in a fabulous hospital where I live in Baltimore, MD. However I was not high risk, or at least not at the time, but God knew and thank God I was with the practice I was!My grandmother had placenta previa with my mother... Read more

It started the Sunday before Christmas, of 2007.I had gone swimming with some girlfriends to take the mounting pressure of baby belly off my back. The water felt so good, I was weightless! The next day, I had this awful pain in my side. I figured I had over done it at the pool, and decided to rest up.The pain got worse as the days went on. Christmas was comical. I was on the living room floor, in the most intense pain of my life. I still thought "Wow, this must be ... Read more

I developed HELLP Syndrome in my 36th week of pregnancy with my son. I had been experiencing high blood pressure readings since the 2nd trimester and was monitoring at home. My husband and I had gone out to dinner on January 11th, 2007, and that evening I didn't feel so well. I thought it was indigestion from dinner, but no matter how many Tums I took or how I tried to get comfortable, nothing worked. I was having some mild right quadrant pain, but nothing severe. Finally, at ... Read more

My son was born October 25, 2009.  He wasn't due until December 1, 2009.On October 14, 2009, I went to the emergency room in my hometown because I was feeling a lot of pain.  Turned out I was having "threatened pre-term labor". They sent me to another hospital right away where they are known for their NICU.  2 days into my stay in the hospital I caught H1N1 and they placed me in isolation for a week.  The doctors continued to monitor my blood pressure a... Hello -I had an up and down pregnancy last year. I was told I had a 1/8 chance of having a baby with down syndrome so I did an amniocentesis and found he would be okay. It was the most scary time of my life. 1/8! I couldn't believe it since I was 34 and thought I had better odds than that. Anyway, at 29 weeks for my regular check up I went in to my appointment letting my ob-gyn know that my swelling had gotten worse and I was down to only one pair of comfortable shoes. She felt my legs and i... Read more
