I have spent countless hours on the Preeclampsia Foundation webpage reading and researching, but I have never added my story until now. The further I get from my pregnancies, the less frequently I obsessively mentally rehash my experiences with pre-e, and the more my memories of the ordeal have gradually dulled; considering the trauma at the time of the events, I am thankful for this usually diminishing pain, but then I'll read a piece of news about another woman experiencing this complicatio...

My two healthy children have wiped my memory nearly clean of the trauma of their two separate births and first months of life. Both my daughters were born entirely too soon--by all standards. Lily was born at 29 weeks, 5 days. Chloe, at 31 weeks. Both were cheated out of ten weeks in the womb--ten cozy, cuddling weeks to grow big, develop strong lungs and you know, finish the whole gestational process like God intended.I would have sold a kidney to experience the last ...

Hello- many people don't know much about pre-eclampsia; I didn't until I had it. This is my story. My name is Charmaine Dawkins and I was 17 and he was 22 when we started trying for are first baby together. I am very mature for my age and we decided we were ready. I fell pregnant first time trying. I was shocked because it can take months, but then I realized there was a beautiful baby growing inside of me and we were so happy. Our family and friends were filled with joy as they could see we ...

I suffered from preeclampsia and was officially diagnosed with it at 33 weeks, was concerned about it as midwifes picked up high blood pressure and protein in urine at 28weeks. At second check-up, blood pressure was still high and they decided to send me for blood tests. My gynecologist said I should consider a c-section and natural birth may no longer be an option.
When I was 32 weeks was sent to hospital to have steroid injections and had my urine monitored; was released the followin...

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, I found my Daughter-in-law dead - just sitting on the toilet. The autopsy revealed she died from preeclampsia and our sweet baby Jack at 34 weeks gestation died when his mother's heart stopped beating. She had been in the hospital 3 times in two weeks for abdominal pain, swelling and headaches and was on bedrest at the time of her death. She had been to the doctor just the day before and had lost 2 pounds, was feeling great, her swelling was greatly dimin...

Growing up in a community where teen pregnancy was very common, my high school did a lot to keep us from wanting kids at a young age. They would assign babies with computer chips that needed to be fed n changed at all hours day or night, they would show us videos of live births and tell us how hard life would be with a child at such a young age. The live birth videos alone were enough to scare me through my teenage years, my 20's and even a bit of my 30's but at 32 I was expecting. My paren...

I consider myself a survivor of this disorder. During my first pregnancy, I didn't even know what preeclampsia was. My doctor hadn't even discussed it with me. Even when I was sent to the hospital due to very high levels of protein in my urine at 39 week, no one mentioned preeclampsia to me. As a result, my son was born only four pounds, and I didn't have a clue to what had caused him to be so small. I had done my part with everything right (I could have died from preeclampsia. I wish my gyne...

Hello my name is Amber. I am 23 years old. I already know a pain most parents don't have to feel.
I had to bury my son before he even got a chance to live.
He was 29 weeks when I found out he no longer had a heartbeat. I went for an appointment on a Wednesday and had told my doctor I had severe swelling in my hands; it didn't go away, and that they went numb when I slept every night several times a night. I also told her about flashing lights I saw if I turned my head a certai...

I woke up on the 19th of April feeling good with the usual pregnancy aches and pains. I was booked into the local doctors for a routine check up that afternoon. I went to the doctors, where she took my blood pressure and a urine sample. She looked worried and asked if I had transport to the hospital. I told her I did; she told me to go straight to the hospital where I was admitted through A&E. After a short wait, I was landed in a wheel chair headed for the maternity ward... ...

I became pregnant in late April 2010; throughout my entire pregnancy I was sick. Morning sickness was horrible, I was throwing up just about every morning. I went to all my normal prenatal visits and of course had to pee in a cup to check all my levels. A few times the nurse told me I had too much protein in my urine and told me to make sure I drank plenty of water and eat healthy. How can you always eat healthy with all those pregnancy cravings?!
In September of 2010 I switched docto...

Prior to the birth of my second son, I was aware of prematurity in a general sense. I knew what the word meant. I knew a few friends, family members, and acquaintances who had dealt with the early arrival of an infant. To me, prematurity meant a baby who was probably no more than a month early and who might be slightly smaller than the 6 to 8 pound newborns that I was used to seeing.
Prior to the birth of my second son, I was even less aware of preeclampsia. I had heard the word befor...

I lived in Mississippi at the time of my first pregnancy. I had an OB right out of med school, and by the time I went to my regular appointment at 26 weeks, he didn't play around. He said I had severe preeclampsia, and said he witnessed two women who died of PE during his residency and it wasn't going to happen to me. He put me in an ambulance to Mobile, Alabama, and said that the hospital I was headed to was amazing and they would take great care of my unborn daughter and me. He was ri...

I have 2 children the 1st I delivered in March of 2004 at 31 weeks with having eclampsia. I never knew of the term and it came out of nowhere, with severe headaches and a seizure. I delivered a healthy 3 lbs 8 oz boy and he was in the hospital from March 18th till April 20th. Now it's 8 yrs down the line and I end up getting preeclampsia again, even though I knew the symptoms I never thought it would get to eclampsia. Blood pressure was through the roof high and the docs found protein in my u...

I struggled with getting pregnant with our first child. We had started trying after I had been on the pill for about 7 years, and finally went off, tried and tried to get pregnant. Was referred to the fertility clinic to see as to why I was not getting pregnant. Both my husband and I were tested for any infertility concerns, I was not ovulating they were unsure why. Therefore we went ahead with having the procedure done for IUI. I found out I was pregnant about 3 weeks later via blo...

My name is Megan. I was 21 when I had my baby girl. She was due in March and pregnancy was going great. When I was 30 weeks along I noticed swelling, but thought it was just part of being pregnant. My checkup came and I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. That very day I was admitted to the hospital because my blood pressure was high. They checked my urine and the next day my doctor came to see me. She said my protein count was high, but if I stayed on complete bed rest...
