Fortunately my story has a happy ending, my son who was born at 33 weeks gestation due to preeclampsia is now almost 2 and half and doing really well across the board. This was my first baby and my husband and I took a holistic approach to the pregnancy, we chose a certified nurses midwife practice that did homebirth, we wanted to deliver our first child at home using waterbirth. We chose not to have an ultrasound, I didn't want to see the baby until it was born and we didn't do the quad panel ... Read more

I was 27 weeks pregnant, I went in for a growth ultrasound and the baby was only measuring 24 weeks gestation. The doctor had me set an appointment for a special ultrasound. The appointment was for the next monday. The same night that I had my ultrasound, I started feeling pain right under my right breast and I felt like I couldn't breath. Being a nurse I thought I was having a blood clot in my lung and went to the emergency room. The ER told me it was my gallbladder and sent me home. The next t... Read more

I am 35 years old. This is the story of my first pregnancy with Emily, who was born July 29th, 2005. I had a textbook first pregnancy up until the 37th week. Prior to, my BP was normal, no adverse symptoms other than the typical fatigue. I didn't even have morning sickness! I finished full time work (week 36) and at my next weekly check up with the OB/GYN, my BP had shot up and protein in my urine. I was asked to get an ultrasound and do a 24 hour urine collection. All tests came back normal.... Read more

I was 30 weeks pregnant when my problems with high-blood pressure began. I went to the office for a routine visit, had my blood-pressure taken as usual, but the nurse didn't repeat it as she usually had before. I asked her what it was and she replied, 148/85, which was high for me. Pre-pregnancy, I was around 115/70. I had been suffering from significant swelling in my hands and face for about 4-8 weeks before this. The doctor was concerned and ordered me to watch my sodium in... Read more

I wanted to tell a story that is not about me but my incredibly brave Sister and Brother in law. I had never really heard of Preeclampsia before April 14 2005, this is the day that my sister gave birth to my nephew. This is also the day that we lost my nephew and almost the life of my sister to this horrible condition. I have never in my life met a couple who was more ready for a child. My sister planned her pregnancy from day 1, she was a wonderful Mother and Conner was not even here yet. Th... Read more

My name is Ashley Anderson I am 23 and I live in Florida. Around my 24 week in pregancy I was sent to meteranl fetal medicene due to a ultrasound that showed a thick skin on my babys neck, which the doctors said could be a sign of down syndrome. Posted On Monday, October 09, 2006  by

When I was 28 weeks pregnant, I read in one of my pregnancy-by-the-week books that basically there is no hope for a premature baby born prior to 28 weeks, and then at 28 weeks the chances of survival are weak. With all of the books, and magazines, and literature from my doctors that I sifted through during my pregnancy, this was the only discussion of prematurity that I ever came across. Several days later I went to my prenatal appointment and was sent to the hospital for evaluation becau... Read more

My story began on February 27, 2000. I was 26 weeks along in my first pregnancy, my husband and I were thrilled to become first time parents. I was working, and every night I would come home and put me feet up, as they had been swelling for about 2 weeks. By morning, the swelling was gone, and I would be off to work. However, today, Sunday, when I awoke, the swelling in my ankles and feet had gone down, but not by much. We were to have dinner with ... Read more

Children truly are a gift from God. After reading the stories on this website, I know that if it were not for the grace of God and many Christian people praying, I might not have my precious little girl. Eva Callie was born on October 21, 2005 at 36 ½ weeks gestation. She weighed 5 lbs. 11 oz. and was perfectly healthy. I would like to share my story of preeclampsia as a testimony that God still works miracles. During my seventh month of pregnancy, I went to the doctor for ... Read more

Posted On Friday, October 06, 2006  by

(March 2006) Being Type 1 diabetic and pregnant, I worked closely with my local high risk maternal clinic to manage my diabetes and keep my unborn baby healthy. For close to seven months, I had bi-weekly appointments and met with my OB/GYN, dietitian and nurses to keep things on track. My diabetes was in excellent control during this time but something else was happening.... Nearly every day at work, people would comment on my size. Most everyone thought I was going to have twins ... Read more
