| I have been a Labor and Delivery nurse for five years and never expected to experience anything like I did. I do feel in a way that even though it was an awful experience it was a blessing. I had a healthy baby girl and I am able to personally relate to my patients who have preeclampsia now. My story happened 8 months ago. I started getting sick at about 30 weeks gestation. My blood pressures started creeping up slowly. I was nauseous through my whole pregnancy. I also started having a lot of heartburn and right upper gastric pain. My husband also has some medical background and did my blood pressures at home. The labor nurses I worked with saw me get more and more swollen each day. Finally at 35 weeks and 4 days the big day came after a couple months of home bed rest. I woke up with a huge headache. I went to my doctor and the headache did not go away. My blood pressures were sky high. I was admitted to the hospital and I knew what was going on. I was induced for two days and on Magnesium Sulfate for my pressures. I ended up getting pulmonary edema and my O2 sats dropped to the 70's. I ended up having to have a c-section. Isabella was born on January 16th at 2:04 pm. She was in NICU on a ventilator for 18 hours and then was in transitional care for 1 and a half weeks. She finally went home with us and to date is a healthy little girl. Even though I was sick I would do it all over again. I would love to do research someday on preeclampsia. Thanks for reading my story. |
