I had 3 different pregnancies all with preeclampsia. I had swelling of the feet, hands & face but never suffered from headaches. I was put in the hospital a week before my first childbirth due to high blood pressure. I had started throwing up and had broken blood vessels in my eyes. My first baby was born 8/30/89 by c-section. Healthy baby girl born with a heart murmur. My second childbirth I was told it was unlikely to have repeat preeclampsia but they would keep watch. Again, I never felt the high blood pressure. I always felt fine. The doctor checked me and said I want you on bed rest, I do not like your blood pressure. When you feel fine it is hard to rest. Once the doctor told my husband what his definition was of bed rest, that is when I quit doing dishes, laundry, going to the grocery store, etc. My second baby was born 9/15/93 by v-back delivery. Healthy baby boy but he does have ADD. I was told that if I was to get pregnant again most likely I would have preeclampsia and the condition would be worse than the first two. My husband had agreed to have a vasectomy. However, he kept putting it off. Right after my sons 1st birthday I started feeling like something was not right. I took a home pregnancy test and then went to a local clinic to confirm. Yes, I was somewhat scared. However, I did not believe in abortion. I was put on bed rest earlier during my pregnancy than the other 2. Still I never had headaches or felt my blood pressure. However, I did want to go into labor on my own so I could experience a natural delivery without inducing fluids. My last visit to the doctor I had read an article about having sex frequently before your due date can cause you to go into labor. Not telling my doctor what I had read only telling my husband, we decided to try. Well it worked. However, when I got to the hospital I had no idea what risk I had put myself and my baby under. Again, I felt fine just a few contractions. My blood pressure was off the chart. I had every doctor and nurse around rushing to get me situated. My BP was around 226/151. I had a healthy baby girl by v-back delivery on 6/12/95. My blood pressure never went down. I am still taking BP medication to date. However, going through what I went through and knowing now what I do about preeclampsia I thank God every day for the 3 beautiful children I have. Oh, within 2 months after my third baby was born my husband get his vasectomy. |
