Hi. I'm new to this forum but I believe that the women here can understand what I'm about to write and any insight would be so appreciated. I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia when I was 25 weeks pregnant. I got hospitalized right away...my BP was 196/114. It was pandemonium to say the least. They straight out told me I was 24 hours away from having a stroke and dying. It was the scariest time of my life. They managed to bring down my BP and keep my baby in me until he had to be delivered at 27wks. He was born a little over a pound. He was in the NICU for 4 months and he's now 4 years old and I have to say, after 5 surgeries that he had to undergo because of his prematurity, he is a real champion...he's my true hero. He's the light of my life. We're now thinking about having a second one but I've had two high risk doctors tell me conflicting things. The first one (back home in Canada) told me that we would be able to try again and after the 8th week of viability, there would be a shot that I would need to inject myself with every day up until the delivery of the baby...I completely forgot the name of what it was. He said it would most probably still be a premature baby but not so premature as 27 wks. The second doctor here in the US (where we now live) told me that the chances of reoccurrence is 60% (which is extremely high) and most probably just be able to bring the baby up to 29 wks. I then hear other stories of many women who went on to have a second child even after having severe preeclampsia with their first and it was a success. I have now an appointment with another high risk doctor in Boston to get their opinion and advice. Has anyone heard of a shot that they can take? Any insight would be so appreciated and welcomed.
