I would first like to extend my deepest sympathies for the famalies who have lost a loved one and/or baby due to this terrible disease. After reading some of these stories from these brave women, I feel extremely fortunate to have a healthy son and my own health.
I became ill with preeclampsia at 34 weeks, but when I look back at it, I believe it began earlier. As many you know, when you're not showing all the classic signs of preeclampsia, often times Dr.'s let it go untreated until the disease progresses. When I went in for my 32 week check up I couldn't believe I gained 10 lbs. I had been putting weight on very slowly up until that point. I was also very swollen, especially around my face. I was concerned because I had read about preecl. in my pregnancy books and I knew that these where signs of it. My Dr. on the other hand was fine with it because my blood pressure was 120/80 and no protien in my urine. So I was sent home until my next appt.
At my 34 week check up I saw a different Dr. and my blood pressure was 136/90. I also had a reading of plus 1. She was concerned and immediately sent me over to the medical center to have blood drawn. All my levels were normal except for my uric acid but that wasn't very high. So, I was sent home on bed rest for a week.
When I went back the following week, my blood pressure was 140/93 and I was spilling protien out, but again anly my uric acid level had risen a bit. I was ordered a 24 hour urine collection and went back on bed rest. Finally after being poked every other day and an amnio to make sure my babies lungs were developed, I was sent down to a hospital with a neonatal care facility to have my son.
I was so blessed that minus all the blood tests and the amnio, everything went great. I delivered my son at 36 weeks. He was 5 lbs. 10 oz. and only had to stay in NICU for the day under an oxygen tent. He is a healthy little 2 year old. I had another boy who is now 7 months and did NOT get preeclampsia. So those of you who are afraid of trying again, this is great news.I wish you all health and happiness. My heart goes out to all. Thank you for your wonderful website....
