I was pregnant with my first child at the age of 21. Everything was going great until my 36th week of pregnancy. That same day I had an appointment with my doctor was the same day we had to get out of our apartment, so the night before I was helping packing and sealing up boxes. I didn't do anything strenuous just the light things. Anyhow, I didn't get to bed till about 12:00 am, and I had to get up at 4:00 in the morning for work. I got up that morning felt fine, a bit tired but ok. Went to my doctors appointment, and found out my blood pressure was pretty high, and that I had protein in my urine. The doctor didn't explain anything to me, and I only had a little bit of knowledge from pregancy books, so when he asked me, "do you work?" and I said "yes" and he said, "quit". I want you to go home and do ABSOLULTLY nothing for the next 3 days. No driving, no cleaning, no cooking, just lie down. And by that time I was freaking out. He took my blood pressure again before I left his office and it read 192/(can't remember) and the nurse was shocked and asked the doctor what to do. He said not to worry she just found out some scary news. This was on a Tuesday, returned to the doctors office on Friday and was admitted to the hospital. They tried to do the 24 hr urine test but the nurse goofed and wrote down the wrong time. They kept me hooked up to the blood pressure cuff and it would go on every 30 minutes. They did a stress test on the baby and he did fine. Finally on Monday, they decided to induce me, because that day I hit the 37th mark. He was born at midnight weighing 5 lbs. 6oz and came home with me on Wednesday! I am again pregnant with my 2nd child, and will hit the 37th week. My blood pressure has also gone up a little and I have been feeling headaches and blurred vision lately. The doctor this time is very kind and is letting me know what to watch out for. He will be seeing me again to make sure everything is ok lets keep our fingers crossed! Mark, Edna, and Matt Allphin |
