Having had type 1 diabetes for 17 years my pregnancy was high risk from the start. Things just seemed to go from bad to worse. At 20 weeks my cervix started shortening, and at 29 weeks I was hospitalized for preterm labor, and then on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy. Everything was fine and the bed rest was working, I went in on a Friday for my bi weekly non-stress test at 34 weeks, my blood pressure was a bit high so to be on the safe side I took a urine test for protein and came back at +4 which mean I had excessive protein in my urine. The doctor came back to tell me I would deliver that day. I was sent right over to Labor and Delivery and put on pitocin and mag. Well of course they fought each other and 24 hours later I was in for an emergency c-section due to baby's hear rate dropping.
I know I am so lucky to be able to say that my baby was perfect and healthy and actually got to go home with us despite being born 6 weeks early.
Had the nurse not had me do a urine test and sent me home for the weekend I do not know what would have happened to me and my little girl. I am so thankful for my nurse being diligent and catching this.
Now my husband and I are starting to talk about having another baby and we are so concerned about getting pre-e again. So I am here looking for answers to my questions about a second pregnancy and the chances of getting pre-e again and looking for any advice on things to try to prevent pre-e.
