Gavins Birth

Posted On Monday, September 10, 2012 By Lori

Hi my name is Lori. My and I husband tried for months to have a baby. After a couple of pregnancy tests, one came out positive! I couldn't believe it: I took two just to make sure. Then we went to the doctor's and was told that we were having a baby!! We were so happy! My pregnancy was pretty normal, though I did end up having gestational diabetes. In the middle of my pregnancy, I got really bad headaches and started seeing spots, so went to my doctor.. They told me there must be something wrong with my brain for me to go to an eye doctor. So I went... Nothing was wrong. Headaches went away but at times I still saw spots. Months went on; I did have some swelling in my right foot... Read More

We found out we were pregnant on October 6, 2012, my wedding anniversary. Even with the surprise I was mentally prepared this time. However, I was constantly worried about preeclampsia reoccurring. I was seen in a high risk pregnancy clinic and my doctor was so concerned about the preeclampsia but I was in denial that I would get it again because I felt like I was doing things different. But the truth was I was already at risk since I had it in a previous pregnancy at 23 weeks. When I made my 24th week without any symptoms I felt blessed. Then at 31 weeks pregnant my pressure went up. By the time we got to the hospital it was 181/102. I was rushed through triage. I met with so many... Read More

Emmalynn

Posted On Tuesday, August 21, 2012 By Stephanie

Emmalynn was a surprise and honestly I was not mentally prepared to be pregnant. But losing her changed the way I felt. I was 5 months pregnant and i felt sick, pain in my abdomen. My doctor was away on vacation so I decided to go to labor and delivery. As they checked my vitals they were shocked to find my pressure high. This was also the first time I noticed the swelling and the first time I heard the term "preeclampsia." I was rushed to another hospital where they handled high risk pregnancies. I was not prepared what I told next. They said that the baby was weak and she wasn’t moving much, that there was a possibility we would need to deliver because my condition was... Read More

Evans Birth

Posted On Saturday, August 18, 2012 By Sarah

This story starts out like any other pregnancy story. My husband and I found out we were pregnant on September 13, and found out we were due May 27. We were very excited and nervous of course, like any first time parent would be.I had a very easy 1st and 2nd trimester. No morning sickness, I gained weight normally, I was right on track for my May baby, right up until March 29.On the morning of March 29, I had a serious headache, which headaches are normal for me, so I didn’t think anything of it. I came to work like always, and by 11 am couldn’t function because of this headache. I took 2 Tylenol and it didn’t... Read More

Gabe's Story: HELLP @ 23w2d

Posted On Friday, August 10, 2012 By Emily

This is the story of the sweetest little baby boy, the light of my life, and how HELLP stole him away. My soul rejoices that he existed, but my heart aches that he is gone. We found out I was expecting in January, 2012. When I told my husband Joe, he warned me not to get too excited because a lot of things can go wrong early on, but we were both thrilled to finally be starting this new chapter in our lives. When I went to the OB for the first time, they did an ultrasound. At only 10 weeks old, our little baby was moving like crazy in there, growing away. My due date was set for September 1. Our excitement grew as the weeks passed. I felt great during the first trimester... Read More

Preeclampsia @ 19 yrs of age

Posted On Sunday, August 05, 2012 By Kathryn

My name is Kathryn Ross, and I had a baby girl when I was 19. I carried my daughter very well for almost nine months. I went to my routine doctor appointments with my OBGYN, and took my vitamins daily. I never consumed a drop of alcohol or did any drugs while pregnant. I had the perfect pregnancy. I did not experience morning sickness, never had high blood pressure, and I honestly can say I felt good being pregnant and had a lot of energy at times. I remember my last doctor visit very well. September 9, 2003. I went to the doctor and had my weight, blood pressure, etc. checked, and everything was fine. My due date was September 18, 2003. I remember very well the doctor telling me... My Katelyn Story

Posted On Friday, August 03, 2012 By sunshine

Hello, My name is Sunshine. I became pregnant with my daughter as a surprise. THE BEST gift ever given to me. Starting at 24 weeks my blood pressure started to increase slowly. My physician being the wonderful doctor that she is, watched me close. At 27 weeks my blood pressure was very elevated. I was eventually put on bedrest at 30 weeks. My doctor wanted to get me as close to 40 weeks as possible. After close monitoring in the hospital and at home my protein was elevated to where she didn't want to risk anymore. I delivered my daughter at 37 weeks after being induced. After 18 hours of labor and 40 minutes of pushing my beautiful daughter arrived and HEALTHY! That was my main concern.... Read More

Diagnosed while in labor

Posted On Sunday, July 15, 2012 By Amy

I had a great pregnancy. I didn't ever get sick or have any real limitations that stopped me from doing anything. I even helped my husband when we moved into our second floor apartment at 8 months along. My back hurt sometimes and I had heartburn real bad to where I ate a lot of tums, but still can't complain. About 6 to 7 months into my pregnancy I started having RUQ pain. I went to the ER about it once and OB triage once. The ER did nothing and triage kept me for about 6 hours, did blood work and sent me home. Then, around 8 months I couldn't sleep or lay on my right side. I was almost paralyzed by the pain if I laid on my right. It hurt... Read More

My Daughter & I: Pre-Eclampsia Survivors

Posted On Tuesday, July 03, 2012 By Macee

My husband and I were married March 17, 2011 on the beach on Oahu in Hawaii. After coming home a week later, I started feeling different. Another week went by and I noticed other things: eating more, unusually sore breasts, and fatigue. April 2nd was supposed to be THE day, so when nothing happened, I bought a pregnancy test. I took the test and was prepared to patiently wait the three minutes, but it showed up right away....positive! I thought I was reading it wrong so I reread the instructions two more times before silently freaking out in my head. I quickly took the test, with instructions, to my husband and stuck them in his face. I told him to... Read More

Our Angel Madi

Posted On Friday, June 29, 2012 By cynthia

My granddaughter Madi Rae Street was born June 30, 2011 and sadly passed on July 2, 2011. She was born 16 weeks early by c-section due to severe preeclampsia. Madi did well at first even though she was only 1 pound 12 oz, and they lowered her oxygen, but her little body couldn't take it and she developed pulmonary embolism.  There was nothing more they could do, so on July 2nd she passed. This saddest day was originally supposed to be a happy day: my youngest son's wedding. Madi's dad, my oldest son, was there with us, along with his daughter Rachel, Madi's sister (who was herself 8 weeks early because of preeclampsia). My daughter-in-law felt my son should be there for his... Read More

Eva's Story

Posted On Thursday, June 28, 2012 By Eliza

My husband and I were excited to find out we were pregnant with our first child in 2007.  It was not a planned pregnancy but, we were ready to start our family.  My first couple of months during the pregnancy was normal.  I felt good but tired.  I was hungry more often than not but, everything seemed ok.  Shortly after the third month something changed.  I was sick daily.  Most of the time without warning and no control over vomiting.  I constantly felt like something was wrong with the pregnancy.  Being that it was my first time I had no idea what but, I found myself in the office of our midwife almost... Heart Problems at 22?

Posted On Thursday, May 24, 2012 By Natalie

Hello I'm Natalie, I'm 22 years old and I had my first child three months ago. A healthy bouncing baby boy who weighed in at 5lbs 11oz on March 1st 2012. I was going to my doctor visit like normal had a healthy bill every time... One visit around 30 weeks I had my b/p go up and they ordered me to do a twenty-four hour urine test. I called for the results and they came back perfect--no problems; no red flags. Next couple of visits my b/p read normal. I complained of swelling but my doctor wrote it off; never looked at my legs or feet. Go back on the 37 week visit and my b/p was back up again. So another urine test was taken... The results differed from last but they saw no red... Read More

HELLP syndrome at 16 weeks pregnant! giving birth to our baby girl

Posted On Monday, May 07, 2012 By kelly

Before my case I hadn't even heard of HELLP syndrome, and I didn't know much about pre-eclampsia. Since developing HELLP and giving birth at 16 weeks I have started to raise as much awareness about the condition as I can. I have created a Facebook page (hellpsyndromeangels) and posted on the pregnancy and baby forums to warn others of what happened to me, and the signs and symptoms to look for. It seems the majority of people are like I was and have never heard of it let a lone know what to look out for.  NHS UK state on their website that HELLP and pre-eclampsia can't happen until at least week 20 of pregnancy, I am proof this isn't true and I've written to the chief executive... Should more have been done

Posted On Wednesday, May 02, 2012 By nicola

My daughter was 30 weeks into her pregnancy when she started to show more serious signs of preeclampsia. She had been getting headaches, and had been uncomfortable throughout the pregnancy, but at 30wks her vision become blurry and her speech was affected and her hands where tingling. I took her to hospital, she spent several days there, and they said it wasn't dangerous levels, it was borderline, that her labour would probably be easier; all nice calming words. I was aware that preeclampsia was dangerous to both mother and baby, but thought they must know what they are doing and didn't want to panic her.  Unfortunately after they sent her home and at 32 weeks, Tara was... My experience with HELLP Syndrome (3rd pregnancy)

Posted On Monday, April 30, 2012 By Kaylee

April 10th of this year I was 21+7 weeks pregnant with my second son when I delivered and found out I had developed HELLP for the second time. I had another emergency c section and had to get put to sleep because my platelets were to low to stay awake. My son was born 8 ounces and was so precious and tiny. He had no chance because he was too little. My whole pregnancy was perfect and I was excited because every time I went to my doctors appointments, I was always great with protein and blood pressures. One thing they always told me though was that I was extremely dehydrated, they told me that wouldn't affect anything. I had a docs appointment a week before I delivered and I was... Read More

My experience of Severe Preeclampsia/HELLP Syndrome (2nd pregnancy)

Posted On Monday, April 30, 2012 By Kaylee

In September of 2009, I had my first son via emergency c-section at 26 weeks. He weighed 1lb 5 oz. He was IUGR. I had developed severe preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome. I had new doctors and a new hospital this time compared to my first pregnancy. They did not have me on any medications just my prenatals. My symptoms were very different compared to my 1st pregnancy. I had no swelling, no headaches. Just abdomen pain that had gotten severe and the pain moved to my back. It started at 25 weeks. I thought I was just having indigestion but when I went to L&D I found out that I developed HELLP syndrome. My blood pressure was very high so I also had preeclampsia. They wanted to deliver my...
