I had my first DS at 31+4 due to pre-e/hellp. My bp and bloodwork returned to normal within 8 weeks pp. I had great blood pressures for 2 years before getting pregnant again. This time around with DS2, my bp went to around 140/90 from 6-30 weeks. 30-37+4 weeks (water broke), through 3 hours of labor and during my repeat c-section, my bp was around 120/80. Great I thought. Until I get moved to recovery when my bp started going up then stayed around 150/100. If I lay down on my left side, my bp and heartratereturns to normal with minutes. I'm now 2 days pp and my ob just started me on Procardia.
It was so weird to me that the bp shot up almost immediately after becoming not pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else. I'm scared it's not going to come back down. I've heard of pp pre-e, but not pp hypertension. What causes the high bp after pregnancy? How long should I expect this to last? Any words of encouragement.
