Thanks! He said call as soon as I get a positive or come in 6 months. My MFM told me he manages my thyroid during the pregnancy, my endo said he works with the MFM, I feel good about both specialists being on top of it. I'll keep you posted!

Good luck!

Did your doc tell you when to come in for a thyroid re-test? My endocrinologist always had me come in as soon as my first missed period/positive pregnancy test.

Thank you so much. I got the results and my TSH is 2.0 so the endocrinologist said that my TSH is optimal and "you can get started on ttc tonight!". I'm so excited to start this journey - I'm more excited than fearful, I guess that's how we get the courage to try again after a difficult pregnancy. I'm so excited!

A little nervous this AM - I'm seeing the endocrinologist this morning with latest TSH/T4 results after Synthroid dose increase to 75mcg. I PRAY that the results are good and I get the green light to start trying to conceive! I've been tracking my ovulation and did ovulate my last 2 cycles, so I'm ready to get crackin'! :-)

You are quite welcome.

I wouldn't worry too much yet, hypothyroidism can prevent ovulation. Hopefully your latest dose increase will be all that you need to get back on track.

Personally I became amazingly fertile after getting on the right dose of thyroid meds, getting my TSH below 2 mIU/L with my free T3 and free T4 both above midrange.

Alviarin and Alexis,
Thank you for your stories and the links!
Right now, my TSH isn't optimal (3.8) T4 is normal and my Synthroid dose was just increased to 75mcg yesterday. I'm 38 and soooo eager to start trying, but obviously need to get my TSH right before doing so. Also....when I was 34 I got pregnant with my son the second month of trying, and now I've been monitoring my ovulation this month and haven't ovulated yet!!! I am trying to be calm about this whole process but I'm preparing for this to be more challenging than it was the first time...

I've been treated for hypo since I was 19 (I am 35 now). I needed to have my meds adjusted, but otherwise it wasn't an issue--I did get PE in my first pregnancy, but not my 2nd (and I am chronically hypertensive, which is a bigger risk factor).

It was really a fairly simple thing to handle--just some extra blood work. The only thing that was even a minor problem was postpartum thyroiditis--my TSH dropped to 0.07 without any med change! I had a few mild symptoms but it resolved itself fairly quickly.

Best of luck!

Hi I'm also on thyroid meds. Autoimmune thyroid disease runs in my family, but I'm the only hypothyroid gal who also experienced preeclampsia. Probably because I have additional risk factors- my father and my husband were both the results of preeclamptic pregnancies.

Thyroid disease is a risk factor for preeclampsia but treatment may lower risks. http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18419

Most hypothyroid women (but not all) will need their thyroid meds upped 30-50% in early pregnancy. For more on treating thyroid disease in pregnancy: http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewt ... 20&t=44473

Pregnancy with treated hypothyroidism?

Post by midwestmom » Thu Apr 11, 2013 06:02 am

Hello All,
I've been on this forum for a couple of years, and recently my husband and I decided to try to get pregnant after developing severe pree in 2009. The thing is, I now have hypothyroidism, controlled with synthroid, and I'm worried about complications associated with it and pregnancy. My MFM, whom I trust a great deal, is very positive about the prospect of me having a healthy pregnancy, but I, of course, am nervous.
I guess I'm posting because I'd love to hear people's stories who've had pregnancies with treated hypothyroidism. I understand that TSH/T4 gets checked every 4-6 weeks, and I'm familiar with the TSH guidelines per trimester, guess what I'm looking for is connecting with others who've gone through this.
Thanks for any feedback you have!
BTW - I love this forum :-)
