Re : Grief Counseling

I am in counseling as well. The good but bad thing is my counselor also had pre-e so she understands my fears. On the other hand it really doesn't help me. What has helped me is connecting with the MANY fantastic and strong women on the forums here. I have formed a bond with these women, and you! I think the difference is that we al have wore the shoes. The women here are the best, I just hate the reason for why we are tight.
It is good you and your hubby are in counseling. I do hope it helps. Wishing nothing but the best for you!

yup, i saw a therapist. It takes some time to develop a strong relationship, but i found my investment in it really paid off. Its hard in the beginning for sure, but i think first impressions are key. If you feel a connection there is probably one there to build. I met several before finding the one I stuck with. When I met her, I knew she would be the one to help me dig deep and ultimately she did. I came so much further with her than I ever would have alone. It was really a great thing for me, I hope you find the same!

I saw a grief counselor weekly then every couple of weeks for about a year after loosing my daughter. My husband didn't go with me to see the counselor, but he did attend the monthly infant loss support group. I found both to be helpful and recommend them. (You might want to see if there is a local MISS support group near you.)

We tried a few different methods of grief support. There is actually an infant loss support group that meets in Pittsburgh. We drive a little over an hour each month to attend the monthly meeting. That has been the most helpful source to us. The group helps us recharge each month and helps us to know that we are not alone in our lose, feelings, etc. I would definitely encourage you to talk to someone ... it really helped us.

I have been doing Grief Counseling since I lost my first son 8 years ago and I love my counselor, I now drive 2 hours away to see her when I need her and she will even talk to me on the phone when I need it. I haven't been able to take my Husband yet since he is working the times Ive gone down since losing our Son, Anthon, 8 months ago. I know it doesnt work for everyone but it has been a very positive experience for me and she has helped with every aspect of my life.
I hope you continue to have positive sessions.

Grief Counseling

Session 1:

So we started grief counseling on Friday. My husband and I were both nervous because we have never been in therapy before. By the end of it, we thought our first session was a positive experience. She started by getting a feel for how our marriage was prior to and after the loss of our son.

I like our therapist because she really articulated well: our concerns, acknowledgement of normal vs. abnormal thoughts or behaviors, and she really tried to understand more of our backgrounds.

She also explained how the counseling sessions would go. She gave us a book so we can read and gave us a bit of homework to do.

I just thought I'd share my first experience seeing a counselor. I was timid, at first, just because I felt uncomfortable sharing something so intimate with a stranger. But I didn't feel uncomfortable at all.

Any of you went through grief counseling?
