I am on low dose aspirin 160mg for my whole pregnancy up until 36 weeks. I don't think it's dangerous or else doctors wouldn't prescribe it. It's worked very well for me. I'm 35 weeks 4 days. Baby is healthy and so far so good.

Thank you so much for the links, so much information, however nothing conclusive as I can see. Small trials done. I think I did the right decision by stopping. My daughter was still a good weight at birth, being premature in some however still weighing 6'4oz, so this is why my Gyn said I can continue the baby asprin, however she is not going to push it as my daughter was a good weight at birth. Showing no concern for this to happen again. I still got my urine tested to make sure however that I was keeping protein in to deliver to baby instead of peeing it out like I did with my daughter. That can definately be scary to hear your baby will start deminishing in weight as no longer eating well, as per protein was not being distributed where it should have been. So better safe than sorry. Even doing the MS screening. No harm to baby so, why not!

And just to make things more confusing, the World Health Organization has different interpretations of the data and recommends LDA for women with a history of preeclampsia (toxemia is an older term, you might not find current info searching on it...)

It is confusing! By any chance would you have an MFM / high risk specialist other than your fertility specialist? I know you got two medical recommendations that you're choosing between, but I'd love to have a high-risk doc weigh in as the tie-breaker, that's why they get paid the big bucks!

Thanks, for the insight & links. I shall definately check those out. The reason for confusion is that my Gyn says up to me if I want to continue, as per past Toxemia. And our fertility specialists said to stop taking it at 12 weeks. I'm sure you can see my confusion.

I have decided to stop taking it, as there is not real evidance to continue it, and really It's not worth the health risk to my miracle baby. We waited long enough to conceive, lets not temp fate!

We're not docs or health care providers of any kind so we definitely can't give you "professional" advice :), but we have a wide range of experiences here with our different docs and reading the research. Low Dose Aspirin (LDA) - 81mg - during pregnancy has a very mixed research history and a wide range of recommendations from docs. You can search our forums for recent LDA discussions, and here is a discussion by our medical board on LDA http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=40560&p=240214. Short version as I understand it - some interpretations of the studies say it helps a little, some interpretations say it probably doesn't help but we're grasping at straws and there's not *too* much risk in continuing it...

I guess the best you can do is to educate yourself as much as possible so you can ask *your* doctor the best course of treatment for *you*.

Is it safe to continue baby asprin 81mg because past preclampsia? My daughter was 6lbs 4 oz, however was born at 36 weeks through C-Section.

I would appreciate any insight anyone may have. The above dosage was prescribed as we had a hard time conceiving, so we went to a fertility clinic. The clinic adv. to stop at 12 weeks , however my Gyn adv. to continue. I'm a tad bit confused. Currently 12 weeks pregnant. Entering 2nd trimester. Can anyone share some professional advice or valid reasons to continue? And is there any proof that taking Baby Asprin low dosage 81mg, really does help not get toxemia, preclampsia again?
