i have been diagnosed with blood clotting disorder, so I'm on both aspirin and Lovenox. After our 2nd pregnancy ended in MMC (died at 6 weeks, found out about 3 weeks later) I thought it was from starting aspirin too early, then the next pregnancy I didn't take it and that ended in a chemical. I was told shortly after that about the Factor V Leiden and told to take aspirin for the rest of my life and was started on the Lovenox as soon as they confirmed the pregnancy. I don't think the low dose aspirin will really hurt anything unless you have issues with bleeding too much (which I've NEVER had).

I'm currently 13w3d into my pregnancy and have been taking LDA since I found out I was pregnant. Everything is going well, saw the specialist today and had an ultrasound and everything looks perfect. I also miscarried in Dec. 2011, had a D&C and they were able to test the fetal material to find a chromosomal problem (had too many of number 16).
From what I understand, taking LDA has nothing to do with blood pressure but more to do with decreasing the chance for clotting especially in the placental attachment? I had placental abruption with my first pregnancy. They'll take me off of LDA at 34 weeks.
Thankfully my specialist doesn't think I'll benefit from Lovenox injections.
I read the same things you did about the dangers of aspirin in the 1st trimester. I have to trust my doctors at this point and all the information I have read on this site.

Thank you ladies :-) i have decided to keep taking it. My life is so much more important now i have my 2 year old son to think about, if that means taking aspirin to help prevent pre eclampsia then so be it, as harsh as it sounds my son is here and living now and he needs me more than ever.

I do have an appointment with the doc tomorrow to discuss my bloods as they have come back as 1 part being a bit low and something else being a bit high, i think this normally means anaemia in early pregnancy ? trying not to worry about it though as im sure if it was something serious they would have told me to go to hosp and not pop in to have a chat with the doc !

Who knew a new pregnancy after PE, eclampsia and HELLP would be so worrying !

There is a lot of info you can find on the internet and what you will usually find is that aspirin should not be taken when pregnant. However, we are special and for many of us it is thought to be more beneficial than harmful. What kind of harm are you worried about? Can you call your care providers and let thrm know what you are concerned about, so they can help clarify rather than stopping taking it on your own?
With my pregnancy with Matilda I started taking it with a positive pregnancy test

Hi! I am currently pregnanct for the second time after having pe and hellp with my first which resulted in a stillbirth at 21 weeks. This pregnancy is so much better! I'm 31 and a half weeks and things are looking great. Before getting pregnant I was tested and I have no clotting disorders. My doctors put me on low dose aspirin (80mg) at 8 weeks as well as heparin injections. They later increased my aspirin dose to 160mg after I was farther along (I think around 20 weeks). Trust what your doctors tell you and hopefully things will be better this time around :)

I think at the moment I am not comfortable taking it until I am 12 weeks, my BP is absolutely fine I feel taking it this early will do more damage than good.

I am waiting for an appointment to see my consultant and plan to ask him lots of questions.

Whenever I have asked my doc or midwife I feel I have just been fobbed off with "it's best if you take it"

Hello and welcome. I am so sorry you had a MC. Naturally, you want to do everything to prevent this from happening again. Unfortunately, MCs are not uncommon and many occur due to chromosomal problems. I had two misscarriages, one while I was taking aspirin and one while I did not. If your doctor feels it is safe for you to take it, and the advantages of taking it outweigh the risks, you might want to follow his advice. Most of us here are taking it in a subsequent pregnancy and are doing fine.

Hi everyone, I am new here so I'll brief you.

My 1st pregnancy I developed pre eclampsia, eclampsia and HELLP. My liver started failing and I had a seizer during delivery causing baby's FH to drop and stay down, had to be cut with forceps delivery. I lost just over 3 pints of blood. Baby was fine upon delivery but I was in intensive care for 3 days. Very horrific but totally worth it, I have a happy healthy 2 year old boy now.

Fell pregnant again Oct 2012, was told to start taking low dose aspirin straight away. This pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks. No reason for it, was told it just wasn't meant to be !

Now 7+6 weeks pregnant, everything going fine so far. Been told to take aspirin again but now reluctant this time as I'm convinced it caused my miscarriage before. I have read that if you have no blood clotting disorder then aspirin can cause a miscarriage ? I've taken 1 dose so far (today) but now changed my mind again. NHS website states low dose aspirin to prevent pre eclampsia should be started at 12 weeks gestation !

I am so confused I don't know what to do for the best. Do I take it and risk another miscarriage or not take it and risk pre eclampsia again ? I am close to a breakdown :-(

My BP is fine right now with no medication ! Please someone shed some light ? :cry:
