Congratulations on your baby! And WOW how fun to have birthdays clustered like that! I'm sorry these last few months have been so difficult. Here's hoping things are on the upswing and your little one will be joining you at home soon.

Congratulations :D and welcome little precious one. I hope baby's stay will be uneventful and not too long.I bet your older children can't wait to have you back home, but I know myself how hard it is to leave a small baby behind in the NICU. So, I am wondering if you could stay somewhere closer for some of the time your baby is still in the hospital. I remember that some posters stayed in Ronald McDonald Houses.
Please keep an eye on PE signs and symptoms (headache, blurry vision, nausea, BP, upper right quadrant pain), as it can get worse before it gets better. Report any of these to your doctors, so they can decide if any further treatment is needed (e.g. BP medication adjustment and similar)

Let us know how it goes.

Wow! April must be your month! Congrats on your new lil' bundle! I hope his NICU stay is uneventful and that your BP is managed successfully. Keep posted when you can!

Weeeelllll, I spontaneously went into labour on Sunday at exactly 33 weeks! :o Baby boy was 3 lbs 5.6 oz and is doing well in NICU. Now we have a 4/5 birthday and two 4/7 birthdays! The first week of April looks like it will always be pretty busy for us!

I was so depressed and desperate to get out of the hospital and get home that I can't help but wonder if I triggered labour???? I have *never* gone into labour on my own. All 6 previous babies were inductions.

Anyway, now we are balancing my blood pressure meds and I can go home. Awesome, except for the fact that I will be over an hour away from my wee tiny new one. :( It's never easy, is it?

Thank you for asking and checking in on me!!!! <3 <3 <3

Ay, my post disappeared into the internet abyss.

Hats off to you for making it 5 weeks! You're an amazing momma to all your children. I can only imagine how difficult it has been being away and missing so many important events. I'm doubly sorry you're not finding the support you need and deserve from your family and friends. For what its worth I think sometimes even the most well meaning and close friends and family really have no idea what to do and so sadly do nothing. So many people are naieve as to what hospital bedrest means... if visitors are even allowed. It's ok to ask for what you need and want from them and to be specific. The worst people can say is no, and the best is that you'll find a few friends and family who will go above and beyond.

Might there be someone at some of the kids' events with a smart phone or Skype cabable device that could maybe Skype you in? Or at least be the picture designated person to take and send them to you the same day.

I also second Julija's idea to check in with the social work or behavior health departments- put the hospital to work for you... and do please keep posted. We're rooting you on!

Oh, hang in there mama! It is so hard to be away from your family, especially your children on their birthdays. 5 weeks is a long time and I hope that you can find a way to deal with the remaining time ahead of you. How is the baby doing?
Are there any social workers at the hospital? Usually they would have bedrest buddies or groups and/or sessions to ease the emotional drain that comes with bedrest. To me hospital bedrest felt often like being in a prison without permission to even move around much. It is really hard. Please feel free to post anytime you feel lonely or can't deal, we are here and offer a virtual shoulder to lean on to.
I have come to realize that many people will tell you that they want to help and then when such a situation arises only very few will actually be there and do something. For most it seems its just all words. Sending you hugs.

5 weeks

I have now been in the hospital for 5 weeks. I will be 33 weeks on Sunday. I am losing my mind. I have seen my children twice for a total of 5 hours. :( I rarely see my husband because we live over an hour from the hospital and gas is so expensive. Today is my youngest's 5th birthday. I am heartbroken to not be there with her. My next youngest will be 8 on Sunday, without mama. <sigh> I missed my 9 year old's Pinewood Derby. I am struggling so badly with this whole situation. There has been extremely little help or support from family and friends while my family and I go through this. I am extremely hurt that so few people have even acknowledged what is going on, much less offered a meal or a ride to an activity.

Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. :(
