Yeah, it would be good for me to check to see what would be allowed. I wasn't allowed food in labor, just ice chips of course. Didn't really want any, either.

But yeah when it was my mealtime I had an assortment of liquids, and the packaging label showed they weren't really healthy foods. I figure if I bring the same thing, but without the added junk maybe it would be ok? You'd think hospital food would be the healthiest stuff you could find anywhere!

I would check with hospital whether you are allowed to bring you own food, especially if you are on a special diet. I was on liquid diet for more than a day. I had broth, juice, water, jello.
After my first pregnancy I was so deficient in my sodium that they asked me to eat lots of salty foods and even gave me salt pills. My nurse told me that this was a first for her...

Maybe the difference was you were on mag after not before, I was on it before and I slept for about 24 hours after my csection.

Hmmm when I was on mag I was only aloud ice chips and that was it. They had me on a "banana bag", I think I was on it for four days, off for two and then back on. I don't think that the hosp is going to let you bring outside food, but I could be wrong. I'm really surprised they let you have clear liquids... and very surprised about the broth that wasn't low sodium. When they finally let me eat they had me on a cardiac/low sodium diet restriction. This was 9 years ago though, so maybe things have changed. Hoping not to have to go through that again.

I'm not *planning* on getting preeclampsia again :D but if I do, I think I want to bring my own clear liquids to have on hand instead of the hospital stuff.

When I had each of my children, I was on mag for 24ish hours after their birth, and I was only allowed clear liquids. I think that's standard, right? So, I had Jell-o, apple juice that had lots of added garbage (why not 100% juice?!), popsicles with plenty of sugar, broth with plenty of sodium (yay, that's exactly what I needed) and other less-than-nutritious offerings of the sort.

Seems like I'd be better off putting actually healthy things into my body during that recovery.

I'm thinking of bringing:

- my own 100% apple juice
- coconut water (electrolytes!)
- chicken/beef/veggie broth that isn't gross

What else? And here's hoping I don't need 'em, anyway.
