I replied to your post on the Ask the Experienced board, but here it is again. I was diagnosed with MTHFR after having HELLP with my first and losing my second to a placental abruption at 29 weeks. I am on lovenox twice a day, and use the stomach and arms for my shots. My hubby does the ones in the back of my arms. My doc said I'd be on lovenox until 36 weeks, then switch to heparin, as it's not in your system as long as the lovenox. So far it's going ok. I am bruising a lot, but that's not unusual for me! My name is Teresa and this is the first time I have talked on a forum to tell my story or ask for advice. I am 35 years old and had HELLP (preeclampsia). I had my first child on 9/25/02. My husband and I named her Emma Rose. She was a 25 weeker...her weight was
1 lb 1-1/2 oz and 11 1/2 inches long. She was very tiny. Emma Rose is our miracle. She is now 16 months old (12 1/2 adjusted) and doing great. The only thing that shows Emma Rose is a preemie is her size (17 lbs) and she has to wear glasses....we have been blessed.

My husband and I would love to have another child but I am too scared. I can not put another baby through what Emma Rose went through. Everything worked out for the best but the 117 days she spent in the NICU was nothing but a hugh roller coaster ride. I do not think I can physically or emotionally can go through that again. They say the second pregnancy should not be as bad....???

I have an appointment set up in March to see my OB/Gyne at the Maternal Fetal Medicine office to discuss the risk of having another baby. After Emma Rose, I found out that I have a blood clotting disorder called Factor 5. My blood Dr told me if I every get pregnant again that I should go on Lovenox. I will discuss this with the OB/Gyne but I saw that you are taking Lovenox and wanted to know if you can explain why this drug is used and does it help with Preeclampsia? I have looked on the internet but it was not very helpful. I am not sure if this is used for preeclampsia or my blood disorder??

I just now saw your post!! Thanks, I'm feeling good. I have my first OB appt next Wed, Feb 4. I also have to do genetic counseling because I'm old - 37. I'm sure we'll do the same thing as last time, just the US and triple screen instead of the amnio. I've got too much going on to take the risk, even if it's a small one. The lovenox shots are going ok. I had a really bad one last night in my thigh. Won't be doing that again any time soon! My EDD is September 11. I know so many people who gasp when they hear that, but i'm thinking it's a good sign, as for every death there is a life. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws, here! But that combined with the fact that we conceived on the anniversary of the day I delivered Erik, I figure we can't go wrong! Sorry this is so long, aren't you glad you asked??? [:D]
