I was told babies could loose up to 10% of their birth weight and should regain it by 2 weeks old. Of course my babies always took longer to regain what they had lost but all my kids are just petite. The ped you're seeing sounds like most of them at the practice I go to. I only like OUR ped and if I have to see someone else, I just take the kids to the pediatric clinic instead.

He is very clear that I dont like him. I made it known and of course all the nurses know it too, the only reason i see him now is cause my well deserved peds took a well deserved vacation. When he went over seas during the war I threatened to lock him in our basement and hide him out so he couldnt leave but he wouldnt let me.:)
Anyways I hope that you can find a great peds like I have found for my kids. Shoot if you lived here i would insist you see my peds.

Sounds like you have a ped that is like some of the ones in the practice where my kids are... Cant stand docs like that.. When it comes to kids you would think that they would want to take their time and make sure they know everything that is wrong with them when they are sick.

I knwo that as soon as I can check out some of the other peds close to where I live I am going to change who they go to.

Good Luck hope nothing like that happens to Samara.. I think I would have had a few words for the doc after that...

Thanks Donna for the input. I do not trust this doc very much as when my 2 yr old was sick he dismissed it and when I was finally able to get him into our regular peds he had Bronchiolitis, RSV, scarlet fever with strep, pnemonia in both lungs and double ear infections. Talk about sick huh, he already has a low immune system from his tumor disorder so when he gets sick he gets sick.
Anyways enough about that just pointing out that if much else arises or doesnt get better I will be going to our hospitals peds after hours

Congrats.. great that she has gained even though feverish.. maybe she was just taking longer to start back on the uphill gain.. I would still keep close eye on the fever as Wyatt had a fever and ended up having ear infection and his sis also had one without a fever but her ear hurt. Wyatt was running up to 101.6 for a day or 2...

Well samara is ok and was told to give her tylenol but no apparent reason to why a little feverish. Also She Gained 2 ounces ( now is 6 7) I never thought I would be happy over some ounces. :) Amazing how a little little one can make you go crazy. Thanks for the advise and responses.

Samara was unable to latch on the nipple so they put her on a preemie nipple that they had in the hospital as well as a pacifier for preemies. By the time I was able to breastfeed she refused to take the breast. She still sometimes acts like she has a hard time from the preemie nipples, I have to slow her eating down. I also had to start giving her gas drops b/c every time she would finish eating she would cry and ball up but since the drops she is doing better.

She started to run a fever yesterday ( low grade) so I am taking her in to make sure that all is okay before the weekend hits and will let you know what her weight is today

Ainsley lost an entire pound in 5 days after she was born. She was 7 lbs 1 oz when born and exactly 6 lbs when we took her home. Even though she was 36 weeks, she had latch and suck problems like a 34 week old. I was unable to breastfeed and finally found a bottle that worked for her mouth -- Dr. Brown's. They were expensive, but were the only ones she could get her mouth around...

E-mail me. I have had growing troubles with some of my kids. The critiria is babies should not loose more than 10% of their body weight. But, the other problem is gaining weight. Did Samara have trouble latching or was she too weak to get anything? Has the ped checked her suck? Sometimes it can feel strong but, be inefficient even with a bottle. The solution we found was to "inject" bm with a syringe and tiny catheter into Janie's mouth for 6wks because she has oral low tone (which at the time we didn't know). Gosh, Sandra, if it was me I wouldn't wait until the 3rd. Call the ped and ask for a weight check.
