We are still involved with EI and they have been beyond wonderful. Initially we contacted them regarding Jaden's speech delay. Because he was under two, they assess everything, and even though he had no other delays, his plan encompassed everything. And, they had some great ideas for us to increase his vocab at home. He also has a team-not just one individual, which helps. Good luck to you.

At this age they are probably more looking to make sure any delays aren't exceeding what they would expect of his "adjusted age". If they haven't pinpointed any issues, its more of a "watch and wait". And not all preemies catch up by two. I would say some catch up before, but many don't catch up until 5.
Our DD has sensory intergration disorder - something significant that they could pinpoint and offer therapy for. Prior to her diagnosis she had preemie evaluations and they would just note any progress or concerns since the last visit. And that's what they are probably doing for you. Milestones are good to watch for, just consider that he could be up to 3 months behind because he was 3 months early. If he is more than 3 months behind on a milestone, then they would consider more aggressive therapy.

Just play and have fun with him. THAT is huge for development - one on one interaction.

I'm not sure what your state has to offer, but your "case manager" should have some suggestions about other programs. In Ohio they had PACE (parent advancing choice in education). They were awesome. Ella had some very minor delays and they had so many wonderful suggestions~different games to play, homemade toys. Very helpful!

Does anyone have good experiences to share with Early Intervention? In our case, we've been referred to seven different specialists, all coming back with different "diagnoses."

I'm not really concerned with milestones, but with having a happy heathy baby. My goal for EI was to have some fun games to play with DS that would help any developmental issues (all of which have been called "very subtle") along. Since he's only 13 months (10 adjusted), I'm not too concerned about delays yet - any concern would come if he's still showing delay at 2, since that's when most preemies even out with their peers.

EI has just been totally disappointing! No one seems to have any "intervention" ideas to share! Once a week, an occupational therapist comes to our house and DS pulls a toy around. She never has any ideas as to what I could do with him at home through the week. Do we just have a bad therapist, or does this coincide with everyone else's EI experience?
