3 years ago, my son was born very tiny, under the chart (less than 0 percentile), at 27 weeks 5 days. We started noticing growth restriction at less than the 2nd percentile at 20 weeks. Most everything that I read, and there's not much for kids in this category, was very grim as far as health and growth prognosis. Most material would say that 90% of kids would catch up in growth by 2 years, EXCEPT for those born in the < 2-5% category, due to early metabolic programming and cell development. So, I wanted to post something positive about him, the exception!
He's now in the 90th percentile for his real age (we quit looking at adjusted age at about 2 years). I'm tall, at 5'9" and my hubby is average at 5'10". Both our family histories run the gamut from really short to really tall.
Here's his 36 month growth chart completed:
