We recvd that book from our social worker in the NICU. As you said its a great book and has helped us understand her development along with mommy bear protection mode LOL. We tell other preemie parents from other boards not only about this wonderful site but that book too.

I didn't notice this book until DD was well out of the "preemie" stage. :-( I did toss all my books geared toward full-term infants (which are most of the books out there). I didn't want to get discouraged by DD progress. The book should be a part of the discharge instructions.

I agree, I found this book after Michael was in the NICU and home...although he had NEC and had I read the book I might have freaked out a bit. Luckily we made it through w/o surgery.

Thanks for the book recommendations, Maria! We received the second book you mentioned as a gift when our daughter was in the NICU, and it was a wonderful resource. So much so that I have lent it to several friends and neighbors who have had preemies over the past few years.

To echo Jenn, a book should probably not replace a trip to the pedi, but these can be a great source of information and a place to gain better understanding of preemie conditions once a diagnosis has been made by a medical professional.

Thanks for the tip on the book! I'm a book-go-to mom myself. Of course it never replaces a nice chat with the pediatrician, but it's a great place to start and arm yourself with knowledge ;o)

Our daughter is now 14 weeks old and we wish that we had these book when she was born. they are great sources of knowledge and help us now too disgnose and help her ailments.
