Hey Rosalinda. Did you go see a Lactation Consultant? I found a GREAT one who ran a breastfeeding support group and that was what kept me going!

I would use some that I pumped in a bottle for about 1st 2 ounces because she would not be able to concentrate trying to get the nipple. It took me about a month for her to get the hang of it, then she seemed to take breast fine. I went back to work at 9 weeks, so from that point on she had bottles during the day and from the breast while I was home. Once she had a little in her belly, she calmed down and breastfeeding was easier. I also asked for helped from the NIC unit Lacation Consultant at my hospital and she was very helpful. My daughter was not comfortable in the normal breastfeeding hold so we tried some other positions for her and both me & her were more comfortable with those and it helped her feed. At about 7 months, she decided she only wanted to bottle and I was still able to pump enough without supplementing for a few more months. I found that adding an extra pumping or two during the day helped increase my milk supply at the beginning

I'm exclusively pumping 10x/day now, and pumped 50% of intake with DS#1 for 13 months. Both had latch issues, I'm about to go to a 2nd lactation consultant for another opinion. My two cents are (a) fenugreek can have side effects, it gave DS#1 and me tummy trouble (I wished someone had given us a heads up before we spent days figuring out what was wrong!), and (b) I found the hospital pump way better for keeping up my supply than the purchase pump. I seem to have really sensitive supply in general (dropped 30% when I had mastitis this time, and was up and down last time every time I took advil, missed a pumping, etc.), and I think others are fine with the store bought kind, but I found the symphony much more effective & gentler.

Good luck, I hope switching works out for you (I am hoping I might be able to do the same!).

Agreeing with km1317! Nipple shields were a life saver for us. It may feel more like a bottle, and allows the flow to be a bit faster. If you an transition from the bottle to the shield, then you can work on getting rid of the shield. Avery used one because her mouth was just too tiny, but also because she didn't have to work quite as hard with it. I could only manage to pump for two months before I had an emotional breakdown about not being able to keep enough supply.

Exclusive pumping is REALLY, REALLY hard, especially if your supply isn't great anyway. The nipple shields can be purchased at T*rget near the breast pump accessories and breast pads.

I second the previous posters suggestion of a nipple shield. Though I don't like them personally I think in your situation where he prefers the bottle it would probably be your best bet to get him fully on the breast and you can try to wean off those later if you want.

I pumped for 7 months excusively every three hours for 15 minutes. If you are going to do this i would get a double pump if you do not already have one! I also tried the herbs, they did not seem to work that good for me so the doc gave me a percription for reglan (which is for reflux i think, but one of the side effects is increasing your milk supply) GOOD LUCK!

I pumped 13 mths for Ella using the Pump In Style-Medela. To keep a good supply I pumped every 3 hours day and night...night and day :) It became very routine. Oh, and I did eat oatmeal for breakfast (that is supposed to help). I was able to keep the supply up well for the whole time and didn't have to supplement.

Fenugreek helped a LOT. I pumped while DD was in the unit (two months) and also after returning to work; she got exclusive "boob food" until she was about five months, then it was combinedw/formula and she continued to nurse until she was about 18 months.

That being said, she never had any problem nursing, so I can't speak to that. Our problem was more of my supply, never great to begin with given the pre-e and HELLP syndrome, and that my daughter couldn't eat for the first four weeks or so.

When DD was about 8 months, she was just too "busy" and nosy to want to BF (there was always something more "interesting" catching her attention, she was ADD even then). My milk started to dry up completely. However, I started with the fenugreek and went on to BF for 10 more months! Good luck with this, I know it's frustrating.

Hi! I have used the SNS and did not have any luck. I was trying to relactate though, and my son wanted the breast and refused the bottle...but I had no milk sooo it did not work for us, but it would be worth a try...our bigest problem was his gag reflux. It seemed like I couldn't get the tubing in his mouth far enough for milk to come out without it gaging him. I gave up early, like I said, because I didn't have milk at the time and he was refusing the bottle. I hate it...but formula worked well when I finally gave in and quit trying. He did recieve breast milk only for the first 2 months while in the nicu, and that WAS solely from pumping alone! Good luck and hope this helps! :)
