Hi there! I was 20 when I had my first child, and I got PE at 28 weeks, it was very scary, but this disease doesn't care how old you are, how healthy, or what your weight is. Has your doctor said if there is any protein in your urine? Your bp may or may not always be high after this, I have heard that pregnancy can unmask chronic hypertension. After I had my daughter, my bp never went back to normal, it stayed in the 130's over 80's, which isnt that high, when I had my son it went higher, at a doctors appt once it was like 170/95, but I was never diagnosed with PE in that pregnancy, and I was never put on medicine either. Now my bp stays in the 140's - 150's/80's-90's, I am currently trying to get in under control with excersise and diet but the doctor told me that it may never get better and he might have to put me on medicine. High bp runs in my family as well. Call your doctor is you have ANY signs of PP PE.

thank you sonja...this whole thing is so swcary...i just dont get why through my whole pregnancy my bp was just slightly elevated and then as soon as i had him it shot up to 160/100....it was so scary it stayed like that for a dya or two....it was very scary! finally when i was getting ready to be released it was down to 140/85. they sent me home on a diuretic HCTZ and i just went to the dr to day to have it checked. it was 140/90 and the dr said that he is gonna wait to see if it is still there by the time im 6 weeks post partum......gosh im just so scared, as i said i am only 21 so this whole process makes me feel so overwhelmed! high bp runs in my faily so i guess it could just be my genes...i just want to kno why did my bp raise like that only after i had my son and not while i was pregnant...and does this mean i will always have high bp?

Welcome. Congratulations on the birth of your son.

There are some very scary stories on here, but you have to remember that our stories tend to be some of the scariest that there are.

I hope that your bps go back to normal - continue to watch yourself for signs of pre-e, as pre-e can show up to 6 weeks post partum. If you get a headache that won't go away or upper right side chest pain, those are things that you would want to get checked out right away.

Take care.

Hello everyone! i just wanted to stop in and introduce myself! i have seen many horror stories on here and its hard for me to read and not get scared! i had my second son almost 6 days ago....i had high bp throughout the pregnancy...stayed around 140's/80 from about 24 weeks on....got put onto bp meds around 34 weeks...aldmoet twice daily then upped at 36 weeks to 3 times daily to have the same bp readings....went into labor...funny story..thought i was peeing my pants all day and went into my appointment and my water had broken....they were gonna talk to me about induction that day anyways...i was NEVER diagnosed with pre eclampsia but i did have protein in my urine and high bp so i guess i did have it but all my levels in all the tests they give you were normal.....including the labs in the hospital before i had my son. i had my son and then 5 hours later my bp was 160/100....i was freaking out stayed that way for a day then they upped my meds and it lowered to 140/85....still a bit high they put me on HTCZ when i left and it was 135/90 when i checked it the last time its at about 130's/80's-90 i would say...i was so worried when this happened to me and i found this forum...its nice to kno im not the only person this has ever happened to.....im only 21 years old and thought that i was doomed...i have seen other younger girls on here too so that helps....

i wanted to comment about the anxiety some of u guys feel....i also have Health Anxiety so yes i have hypochondria....what a lot of u guys are talking about is exactly what i deal with...its so hard to overcome and to accept but i kno how u feel with that!
