I just have to share that I had the honor of attending a benefit for Shelly in Iowa Falls last Friday (Feb. 18). There were well over 1500 people in attendance (probably near 2000). They had a HUGE silent auction and a live auction to raise money for medical expenses, Hailey's college fund, and a scholarship in Shelly's name to be awarded each year at the high school. It was very cool to see all the community support. But, it was also very, very heartbreaking. I didn't get a chance to meet Shelly's husband, but I did meet her parents and talked to them for awhile. Her mom kept saying "In this day and age....women shouldn't die from childbirth." That statement is SO true, and it is hard to understand why these things can still happen. (sigh). Please keep Shelly's family in your thoughts and prayers. They are going to have a very long, very difficult road ahead of them as they try to cope with this situation.
