Hi, Blue! An MFM is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist who specializes in high risk pregnancies. They generally have more specialized training, education, and experience in several areas such as hypertensive pregnancies. With your onset at 27 weeks, you might just consider an initial consult prior to conception and let your OB take it from there if that's your preference. I developed problems with my first around 28 weeks, hung on for a relatively long while, then crashed. I saw only an MFM for my last two, and loved it. Check out:
