Thank you for the concern, everyone. We have returned to our home and we, too, were lucky. Home is untouched. I spent some time unpacking the family "irreplacables" today and feeling much better about things.
Now I can concentrate on my divorce :(. He moves out this weekend. If it isn't one thing around here lately, it's another. :)
This is the first morning since the fires started that I woke up feeling pretty confident we would be alright and that the fires were not too close.
President Bush and our governator :) spoke from Escondido at a news conference that I heard just bits of (over my 4 year old and 2.5 year old's playful screams and wiggles). Shortly after that, we went out driving to run errands and saw two planes and one helicopter in the sky in a row; pretty sure it was the President being escorted back to Miramar (just south of us) where Air Force One was waiting for him. Also saw many, many motorhomes camped out in large parking lots around here; some with horses just hanging out on the hot blacktop. I feel so sorry for the people and animals who still can't get back home...or who may not have homes to go back to anymore.
The air quality is bad here, but it will clear up. I remember a lot of this from the fires of '03.
It's time to get on with Halloween and the fall holidays now!!
