I wanted to add some info to this

quote:
Utah County hit with whooping cough
Whooping cough is on the rise again, and Utah County health officials are urging people to get vaccinated for the disease.
After averaging 11 cases a year from 2000 to 2004, 116 individuals were hit with pertussis last year, an outbreak shattering national averages. But those numbers are wilting under 2006 figures; there are already 75 reported cases in the county to date and the high season isn't until the fall. The highly communicable disease starts with mild cold symptoms and progresses to violent coughing and vomiting. The symptoms fade gradually over six to 10 weeks and are most dangerous to children under 1

I just read yesterday that there have already been 9 times more whooping cough (pertusis) cases reported this year than recorded in the past 2 years in Utah County.
