Re: (update ?)Dr will not order 24hour urine..(friend's issu
The other tactic your friend may wish to try is to ask them to document her requests in her medical record AND record that they declined. Then, make sure they do it. In my experience, providers who are inclined not to take you seriously often reconsider when looking at it through the lens of what it...

Re: At risk for Preclampsia, but am I freaking over nothing?
Heyya Paranoid, we are two peas in a preeclamptic pod- not just because we both found the Preeclampsia Foundation while flipping out, but because I also get vascular headaches and have chronic hypertension. 8-) The good thing to remember is that although (in your case underlying) chronic hypertensio...

Re: Measuring small at first u/s... poor implantation?
I seem to remember something my doc said during #1 that all babies grow at the same rate until around~16 weeks, and then things like environment (read: placenta) and genetics start kicking in. It seems like when they're that small they are hard to get good measurements of, and I know that we suspect...

Re: Introducing Myself
Hi Allison- I'm sorry that you had to find us, and I'm sorry about the loss of Peyton. The others have covered the bases and given you a nice welcome, but I thought it might do your peace of mind to hear that like you, my baseline for protein during my post-preeclampsia pregnancies started out aroun...

Re: When should kicks become prevalent?
I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I can relate a little bit- my second one developed low amniotic fluid early on- which meant that because the placenta wasn't working properly, all the blood flow was directed towards her head while everything else- including her kidneys- hibernated. I d...

Re: 7 weeks and having swelling/vision issues
Yup, my docs also indicated that hypertension prior to 20 weeks would be triggered by underlying chronic hypertension, rather than PIH/PE. And- on a personal note- these sorts of pregnancies are too stressful to go with doctors you don't feel are responsive to your concerns. Really, in my own case, ...

Re: Tell me about... "Visual Changes"
I think context is everything- late pregnancy is also the time when floaters run rampant- they're bits of protein in the eye that flit around the periphery that you can see. The visual disturbances that go with severe preeclampsia are caused by inter cranial pressure smushing the optic nerve. (thats...

Re: 10 weeks already seeing MFM
That is exactly what I was thinking about, caryn, even some our docs assumed that c&e supplements were benign- only to find out we had all been wrong. Thats why it is so important to understand that there is no *best* treatment, only the best treatment for *you*, given your own medical history, and ...

Re: PIH and Chronic Hypertension
Gosh, I can't remember where I saw it, but remember Anne saying that half of all with PIH would develop PE.
Among chronic hypertensives with controlled BPs the pe rate was between 10-25%. So there is hope! The key to look for is whether your pressures can be controlled. Hope this helps.

Re: 10 weeks already seeing MFM
I'm a little disappointed that Abbysmama's original post turned into a discussion about the merits of lovenox- that clearly wasn't what she was asking for, and didn't help her one situation one whit. I'm not a moderator here anymore (but since I was the *first* one, I'm grandfathered in ;) ) but wou...
