Re: WHY is the diet myth so pervasive among midwives?

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Caryn. Sorry I didn't see it sooner. I was on an extended break from the internet. I find that necessary for mental health from time to time. ;-)

WHY is the diet myth so pervasive among midwives?

This isn't the first time I've encountered this, but it REALLY got my blood boiling today. I belong to another forum where a pregnant woman asked questions about what's normal for pregnancy swelling. A woman claiming to be a midwifery assistant advised the poster to add more salt, protein, and calor...

Re: Feel Like I'm on a Roller Coaster

I'm sorry you're in this situation! I'm by no means an expert in PE, nor the most "experienced" in these forums, but I couldn't read your story and not respond. It sounds like your blood pressure is starting to be "labile", meaning that you're in the beginning stages of PE. Think of the spikes being...

Re: High Estrogen and IVF

Thanks for the link--it's very interesting. It looks like the study cited in the article was very small, though, so it'll be interesting to see whether the results are confirmed in other studies...

Re: High Estrogen and IVF

I've not read anything regarding a correlation between estrogen levels during IVF and PE, but I have read that high estrogen levels after ovarian stimming can lead to a failed transfer of fresh embryos (they will not implant or will miscarry early on). This is why some REs test estrogen levels after...

Re: DID CEASING LOVENOX HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY HELLP?

Although I absolutely understand the feelings of guilt and inadequacy, having gone through them myself, the most important thing that I've learned from my research here at the Preeclampsia Foundation is that this disease was NOT MY FAULT. There was no way I (or anyone else) could have known that thi...

Re: DID CEASING LOVENOX HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY HELLP?

Lisa, I have seen your story on the RESOLVE forums before, and reading it again here made it no less horrifying. How lucky you are to have survived such an ordeal (and mostly unscathed at that)! I am by no means an expert on preeclampsia or HELLP, but after experiencing severe PE in my first pregnan...

Re: HELLP 7 years ago; fear of second pregnancy and now in 4

I just discovered an old thread with experiences of ladies who had gone through HELLP in a previous pregnancy and went on to have more babies later in life (late thirties/early forties). I thought you might find it interesting: http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=45319&sid=dc90e7e...

Re: HELLP 7 years ago; fear of second pregnancy and now in 4

I'm very sorry to hear that you had such a rough pregnancy and that your health care providers largely failed you, and I'm even more sorry to hear that you've been beating yourself up over delaying having a second child. I agree with your husband that you should be more gentle with yourself. I...

Re: IVF and Pre-e and HELLP

Sometimes I think we delve deeper into the details of these issues than our doctors. I definitely think you're right about that--not that our doctors would admit it. And it makes sense when you think about it. A doctor, whether he/she is a "specialist", is really required to be a generalist ...
