Re: 4 years on and still impacted by HELLP

Well is was 2 years in May for me and I still have trouble with the whole thing - I still think about it everyday!. I was at 36 weeks, with no stay in the hospital ahead of time. I had the bad pains in my side and my husband made me go to see my doctor. They sent me straight to the hospital to be in...

Re: We've made our decision...

Libby, I appreciate you sharing your decision. It is one that I (and my husband) have spent a lot of time thinking about. Your pro and con list looks just like mine and it is so agonizing. I know that my husband doesn't see the cons exactly the same as I do - I don't think he ever realized that just...

Re: Must you have high bp to have HELLP?

I never had high BP with my HELLP until well after the HELLP was underway and my son was already born. I "skipped" the PE beforehand and just went straight to HELLP. It doesn't seem to be that common, but there are some of us on here who had no protein in the urine or high BP before the HELLP. I did...

Re: Questions about my experience with HELLP

I also went straight to HELLP with no PE before. I was VERY swollen before the c-section and the swelling didn't start to go down until a few days afterwards. I was in such pain from the time I went into the hospital (upper right quadrant pain from the failing liver) and from the c-section that I do...

Re: Why did they keep checking my blood after my csec?

My HELLP got worse after my c-section and they gave me two units of platelets the day AFTER my son was born. I think that they check to much to determine if there is anything that they can do to help while your body is getting better after deliver.

Re: Mattress to help with SIDS

We found a plastic protector that goes over the mattress with air holes on the bottom. (It goes under the mattress pad and sheets to there is no hazard) There is a lot of research our of Australia about SIDS being linked to gases produced by the breakdown of the fire retardants put in the baby mattr...

Re: Atypical HELLP Syndrome

Other than a ton of swelling, I had no signs. I never had high BP or protein, so there was no PE until after my son was born. (went home with BP meds) My HELLP was diagnosed because I had severe upper right quadrant pain that they thought was just my son pushing on my ribs. They caught it because I ...

Mine also came and went a bit in the beginning and then was constant after that. Can't hurt to give a call and see if they can check your blood work!

Re: For those of you who were induced at 37 weeks

I have always read that 37 weeks is full term. My son was just 36 weeks so he had to have the car seat test ect. (yea he failed and we had to buy that stupid car bed to get him out of the hospital even though he was fine and never spent any time in the NICU. Evening Primrose oil - got mine at the lo...

Re: How long between diagnosis and delivery?

There is so much variation when looking at diagnosis to delivery. I was diagnosed borderline HELLP at 2:30 pm (from bloodwork done the day before), sent to the hospital to be induced, (all at 36 weeks) more bloodwork was run and I was then diagnosed with full HELLP at 5:00 and was taken in for the c...
