Re: PIH management- is OB being too relaxed?

Welcome! I'm glad you found us but sorry you needed to! Keep in mind I'm not a doc, I've just read a lot. Please ask your doc if my answers fit in *your* case! A few random thoughts from your narrative - diagnostic bp is just two readings taken at least 6 hours apart of 140 systolic or 90 diastolic ...

Re: New and pretty overwhelmed

Oh - and I'm glad that "argument" explanation helped you - I know it has helped me tons in understanding this disease! I think Caryn uses the word "negotiation" if that helps in searching for her exact words! I don't know the mechanism, but it seems to make sense that if your blood pressure goes dow...

Re: HELP! pre-e w/good blood and urine @ 36 weeks?

Our experts have said that third trimester nausea is an "underappreciated" symptom. Have you gotten the results from your latest bloodwork and 24-hour collection? Your headache and visual disturbances are also concerning to not-a-doc me. How did your weekend go?? To answer your question, my understa...

*Very* good point that a therapist could make a case for sedation due to PTSD. Thanks!

Re: Mag sulfate

Has your induction started yet? From what I understand, mag for mild PE and for PIH isn't required and is very dependent on your doctor's comfort level. My understanding is that eclampsia has less to do with bp or bp spikes than with central nervous system involvement. "The" PE headache, visual dist...

Re: Feeling like a ticking time bomb

I'm not positive on the labetalol max dose, but I think you're right - I know I was taking 2400mg for my first weeks post-partum. If you're developing superimposed PE the average time from diagnosis to delivery is 2 weeks - but that average encompasses a wide range. My understanding of bp meds is th...

Re: New and pretty overwhelmed

I'm so sorry you're feeling awful and feeling unheard and blown off on top of it! I don't know what them MFM will say, but I would keep the appointment. I tend to get much more relaxed if the MFM says it's normal - even if it's completely miserable - pregnancy. I'd also have the MFM reiterate when y...

Re: she is here

Wonderful! Welcome, Laurell! So glad you're both healthy - and bonus that nursing is going well.

As you know, keep an eye out for the next 6 weeks just to make sure you stay PE-free in these post-partum weeks. But Yay! for being able to lower the labetalol already!

Re: Swelling early in pregnancy hmmm

Good point ellemoon. Our docs have said that sodium intake doesn't seem to be correlated to preeclampsia, but I swear they've also noted that anyone with a history of preeclampsia should assume that they're salt sensitive unless proven otherwise. I can't find the link at the moment - let me know if ...
