Anyone been on macrobid for a uti while pregnant? I have a few concerns about taking this drug which I discovered last night. Is a category b drug, which is ok.
Concerns...
Not for use after 38 weeks or when labor is imminent. I am 37 today, I am 1/12 and soft.
Not for use during breastfeeding. Induction on Thurs, due to stop the med on Fri. I am thinking about quitting the meds on Tues nite for the Thurs induction. Will this stuff be in my colostrum?
My dr is out until Tues, which is a long wait. This is my second uti this month, I have already taken augmentin, so this is the next in line for uti's according to my ob.
I would appreciate your feedback on what you might do in my situation, I am really torn.

I'm fairly certain that was the med that my ob called in when he got my urine tests back from the lab. It was later in pregnancy, I think I was around 33 weeks. I delivered at 35/5.

I've taken macrobid while breastfeeding both my kids. Both times I got a UTI a week after delivery (from the catheter) and both times I had macrobid. Can't speak to using it during pregnancy, and of course I'm not a dr, but that's my personal experience.

If you can't reach your OB about the BF issue, you can try your pediatrician and ask for their opinion. They're a good resource for info on medications in BFing.

I have used macrobid 4 times in this pregnancy. I have always had UTIs (about 3-4/year). My peri says it's ok during pregnancy and after when brestfeeding. I asked because I had to take it so often. I would stay on it until the infection goes away or until you talk to your doc. If you get off of it too early, you may not get rid of the infection and develop a resisitance to it and be put on a stronger antibiotic that may interfere with breastfeeding. Mistie |

I ended up taking the macrobid, and it made me horribly sick! Now I am on cipro, which I know the AAP approves of for nursing. Now hopefully I can get rid of this uti quickly so I can enjoy the baby on Thurs.
