Have had very little news recently, but it appears things are going better and we are hoping to go and visit her again tomorrow. She was allowed out of the hospital with her mother this morning just for a short break - I think it has been 3 weeks now since she was first admitted to hospital. She is still in the maternity ward and the baby continues to do well in the NICU.

Went to visit my SIL today and she was released from the hospital this morning! So we saw her at her house. She looks a lot better than when I saw her a week ago - less swollen except for her feet, the bruising is healing fast and she is stronger. She says she just needs to go back for a check up in 4 weeks and she is checking her own blood pressure now as they say it may drop too low - possibly all the meds she has been on. Her baby is doing well - he weighs 1,65kg now and this week they will be trying to get him to suckle - he is still being fed with a nasal tube. I think she is glad to be home, but said she feels guilty leaving hospital with her baby still there.

I'm so glad to hear that she and the baby are improving and that your SIL is home now! I'm also glad that she is checking her BP at home; I had high pressures (even on a high dose of meds) after my second was born but they slowly came down over next six weeks necessitating some medication & dose changes. My GP was actually better/more experienced handling my postpartum BP problems than my OB.

My SIL is doing well and spending most of her days at the hospital with her baby - she says he recognises her husband but not her and I think that is causing her some guilt issues - we told her he would soon know her well. They have been working to get him to suckle this week, but it is slow going - he would have been about 34 weeks gestation now and is growing rapidly, but still needing nasal feeding. Otherwise things are now going pretty well with both of them.

Aw, mamahood and guilt- they so often unnecessarily go hand in hand. Of course he knows her- knows her better than anyone, after all he's heard her heartbeat from the inside! I hope they find their groove soon and know they will. That's a bond that knows no limits.

Thanks for continuing to update :)

So glad to hear they are both home together! Thanks for the update!

I wanted to mention, just in case, that some of our posters have experienced PTSD after traumatic deliveries. I hope your SIL is recovering both physically and mentally, but I would encourage her to log on here or see a counselor if she ever needs any extra emotional support.

Thanks, I will tell her. I know this was a very far cry from the birth she had initially wanted and it was a very hard road getting this baby here at all (she had two ectopics and lost both tubes and then had IVF for this one) so I imagine that at some point she will need to speak to someone.

Thanks for the update! So thankful to hear they are both home.

And what a journey she has been on to bring this lil' one home right from the start!
