Literature on Preclampsia

Can anyone reccomend a great book(s) about pree and bp related issues during pregnancy? Laura - I know you had mentioned a book or two. Are they good companions during pregnancy? Any other book would be welcomed. I am looking for something more than what to expect...

One that Laura quotes is Chesley's Hypertensive Disorder...something or other. lol It isn't made for pg ladies to my understanding, though I'll enjoy reading it when it comes (just bought it on ebay). And there is apparently another one that is out of print or something called Preeclampsia. Is that right ladies?

Not sure about any books on PE, but Parents mag now has a pregnancy magazine that I've heard is great. Plus something new monthly!!

I think the out of print one you mention is probably Pre-Eclampsia, the Facts, published by APEC. It is still possible to get copies from APEC office in UK.

It's disturbing how few books there are on PE. I think it's time for the foundation to publish one. Maybe even a quarterly journal![:D]

This quite an old book, and libraries are withdrawing it, so you might get it cheap from a library. Also note that it's more than 10 years old, so not everything (studies) is up to date, but I wished I had this book when I got pregnant.


I also recently read

***Coming to term - A father's story of Birth, Loss, and survival - William H Woodwell, Jr.

A pree story: twins delivered at 24w due to pree. The twin that had 400g did not survive, the twin that had 600g survived... The whole NICU experience id presented in detail. Interesting to see experiences similar to ours put on paper. Needless to say, I cried all the time while reading the book, so probably not a pregnancy-appropriate book. Not much medical information however. They had a baby die, so it couldn't have been too easy, but they had quite an easy ride compared with other stories on the Forum.

***Trying Again - A guide to Pregnancy after misscarriage, Stillbirth and Infant Loss - Ann Douglas and John R. Sussman

Lots of loss stories and all the topics that we have in the forum are discussed with a small amout of medical information. This might be offending to some of us as it doesn't talk much about preeclampsia. However, info is better than in What to expect... The same authors had a book The unofficial Guide to having a baby, in 1999, which is supposed to present more info than the other normal pregnancy books. Did anyone read that?

Further to the post by Ileana...I have the Pre-eclampsia The Facts book from APEC in the Uk. Yes it is out of date, published in 1991 with reprint in 1996 but it is very readable, and there is also an update added when it was reprinted.

This site is worth checking over, I found it in a search I did for Pregnancy, Hypertention, Preeclampsia books. There's a book and ebook available not sure of it though, I haven't read it myself. but I want to check it out.

I'm sure if you search the net for books there might be more, but this one caught my eye.
