Advice Please!

Hi All,

As some of you know I am just over 37 weeks and have been in and out of hospital with fluctuating BP. I have been monitoring at home, BP and Urine. My BP for the last 2 days has been all over the place, occasionally reaching 138/92+. However with rest it has lowered to 128/88-.

I have been monitoring my urine morning and night and tonight was the first time I have had a +1 reading. I was shocked and called DH in to confirm. I had a 24 hour urine done last Sunday and all was well.

I know first hand how fast some symptoms can arise. And just because I had a clear Pre-E panel last week doesn't ensure it won't hit at anytime.

My question I have for all of you is if my urine in the morning is still reading +1 should I contact my Peri?!I know generally one wouldn't call in til they have a +2 reading but I am a little nervous because of our history.

Phone for sure Erin. You could have that baby now and she would be just fine. I know that you are watching for symptoms, if any should strike, run (or make DH carry you on his back) to L&D. I'm sure that your peri wants to know this stuff, if he needs to see you he'll tell you to come in. He can't read your mind LOL!

I don't think that you'd be too heartbroken if you were forced to "open" your present before Christmas.

Sooo exciting.... more babies!!! Nothing like a little tax deduction... do you get one in Canada?

I agree with Catherine. Call now. An increase in protein is a sign that the condition is progressing... who knows what the next step in the progression will be. Better to let the peri know. :-)

I have to echo what's already been said, I'd call. 37 weeks [:D] is great and I think this little miracle might be ready to come out and meet you in time for Christmas!

Always a Twist!

This morning my Urine strip was Trace again?! Is this possible?! My BP (as soon as I got up) was 138/82?! However my hands calves and face are swollen?!

Sorry I am a little slack on slow on-set since last time mine was a very quick on-set. I appreciate all advice!

It is still really early here so I will be back to see if anyone has 2 cents to throw my way!

Erin,

The protein strips give both false negatives and false positives. The kidney doctors don't even use then because of this...
They are useful for us, pregnant women because they are the cheapest way of noticing that something is going on.

On the other hand, the protein excretion varies from time to time, and whether urine is more or less concentrated, so I'm not surprised at all about your findings.

However, you need to let your doctor know about the +1 from yesterday and this morning's swelling.

I agree with Ileana and all the other ladies, you should still tell your doctor about the protein and the swelling. It may have been a fluke like Ileana said, but why chance it. All else fails, you get another 24 hr urine and won't have to do it for another week! lol Hopefully you'll have this wee one soon!

I am going to keep a close eye on things over the weekend and write everything down. I have an appointment with our Peri first thing Monday morning so if things don't progress I will discuss everything with him then.
