Thank you, thank you to all of you. I can't type long as I do need to stay down, but I so appreciated the overwhelming response. I wanted to let everyone know that I am being monitored at home through Matria. Anyone heard of that? I take my bps and protein and someone calls and gets the results daily.

You ladies are incredible and I will keep you updated as I can.

Thanks,

Tiffany

Just wanted to chime in on the bedrest issue...I'm including a link from our Expert medical board

http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10150

Some women have had GREAT success with bedrest on this forum, but I wanted to present the other side...that it is not appropriate for every woman.

I'm providing this information (particularly for newbies)so that each woman can work with her own doctor to decide what is best for her situation...i.e..no self imposed "strict" bedrest!

Thanks for letting me chime in!

Hi Tiffany,
Just wanted to echo what the others have said and say "Please take care of yourself".
My main symptom of PE all three pregnancies was headache, visual disturbance and "Brisk" reflexes. My BP was NEVER an issue.
I have protein and impaired liver and kidney function, but am in a very, very small (only one my high risk preg specialist has seen in the last ten years) group of PE sufferers who DON'T have high BP.
Take care and keep us updated. Sending you Non-PE vibes.

I was hospitalized at 28 weeks with basically the same symptoms. My bp was higher than yours, my protein was almost 500, and I had a lot of swelling. After three days on bedrest my swelling went down so much, I hadn't even realized how bad it was. They ended up putting me on methyldopa for my bp and have continued to raise my dosage because it's still creeping up. After two weeks on bedrest my protein had come down to under 200. I am now 34 weeks, and I believe the only reason I'm still pregnant is because of the strict bedrest. I'm starting to think I may make it to 37 weeks. I really think for someone in my situation bedrest can make all of the difference. Of course everyone's different, but it seems to be working for me.

I'm just seconding everyone because I talk too much. [:D]

Yep, clonus is a measure of how reactive your reflexes are -- it's related to the cerebral edema. Usually they'll say something like "+3 with a beat of clonus" -- did they actually tell you you had a beat? When they whack your knee, if it bounces up and actually does an extra kick at the top of the arc, that's clonus.

I had +4 with a beat of clonus right and was completely wired and unable to sleep before I started reporting visual hallucinations (because the cerebral swelling was putting so much pressure on my brain.) Take it *really* seriously and go back in if anything worrisome appears. They kept asking me about headache and epigastric pain, neither of which I ever got, but agreed with me that visual hallucinations were also a central nervous system effect that merited very close observation (by which I mean a nurse at the bedside 24/7.)

PE can get very serious very fast, and you may need to be readmitted even if your swelling and pressures are going down somewhat, just because they're not the only measures of severity.

Hi Tiffany,

Gotta get in my disclaimer here, you know the drill, I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advise, just my experiences.

I have been able to reverse very early signs of PE, specifically, I was swelling, spilling protein, and a slight elevation of BP. I talked with my OB about the research on increased calcium supplementation, he said he didn't think it worked, but if I wanted to try he saw no harm in it. I started 1500 mg of calcium (on top of my prenatals) and the swelling went away, urine returned to mormal as did BP. Now, I was VERY mild in my symptoms and I'm only 1 person. I went to 34 weeks, however began the swelling again around 32 weeks.OH! I almost forgot, bedrest. Bedrest has always been a huge positive influence in how long I can carry the babe. I have had it with each pregnancy, some longer than others.

I wish you thge best and STAY IN BED!!!
lizzybeth

I do hope that

I am sorry to ehar that you are teetering on the edge. Some people stay there, others fall off the cliff pretty quickly. I am not a docotr and may be totally worng, I think clonus has to do with reflexes. Meaning youa re hyperreflexivewhich is not great. I would stick to the doctors orders of strict bedrest and if ANYTHING changesm go to L&D.

Above is a link to an earlier post on Clonus. I am sending you an email. Clonus is very serious and you need to be watched very closely? Even if your BP is "stable" it doesn't mean that you are not at risk.

Do you have an appointment soon? I would ask them to recheck my protein and monitor baby!

dr appt led to l&d overnight, now home barely

Postby lovinmycaitlynn » Tue Jul 28, 637671 7:01 am

I went to my dr. appt. Tues. My bp was 140/80 (not too bad) but I also had 1+ protein for the first time.

So...doc sent me to l&d to do another 24 hour protein. My clonus was 3+ so they kept me there to do the protein. I got my steroid shot for baby's lungs so I feel good about that. I will be 31 weeks tomorrow.

I got to come home, but they are putting me on a 24 hour bp surveilance and STRICT bedrest. Ironically it is actually working when I make myself stay down 90% of the day. My swelling has nearly been cut in half and my blood pressures have gone down 20 points on both top and bottom. Ironically my protein came back 299 so I guess I am lingering right on the border.

What do you guys think? I never got past 230 protein with my daughter and I am not even to 32 weeks yet. Can I slow it? Do I still have a chance of getting to term? What is clonus?

There are my new questions. I can't type more as I begged and pleaded and promised to behave in order to come home.

Thanks all,

Tiffany
