We had a lot of people praying with us for a miracle, and we got one :-)

I am HAPPY to report that after the last emotionally grueling 15 hrs. concerning Drake his neonate dr. just informed us that our precious little man Drake passed his echo test with flying colors. He does not have PPHN as they suspected! The experts say he does have a heart murmor which should resolve on its own and right now his major problem is immature lungs. (WE CAN HANDLE THAT!!!)

We are all rejoicing and thanking God for watching over Drake!!! Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to hear from all of you during this difficult roller coaster ride in the NICU.

prayers for Drake. you've fought so hard for him and Beth. Being informed about PE and diabetes helped you there; now you have to educate yourself about Drake's condition - I wish you could take a rest! I did read about sildenafil citrate (aka Viagra) doing some remarkable things for babies with pulmonary hypertension, but not sure it's the same kind Drake has - sounds like the doctors aren't even sure what's up yet.

Please let us know what the echocardiogram says. My daughter (as do many preemies, and even some full-termers) has PDA, which is patent ductus arteriosus. She is 18 months and will have her closed at age 2. However, her's never caused much problem, which is why they waited to close it. WHen it causes problems, they tend to close them in nicu by either stitching or stapling it shut, which requires an incision, or by giving indomethicin which constricts the blood vessels. This is a different condition than PPHN. These little guys are fighters, and although it hurts to see them on ventilators, it really does help them conserve their energy for growing, and getting stronger and better so that they may come off the ventilator sooner.

I'm really sorry that Drake has to go through this, but look how far he has come so far....he was able to stay in Beth so much longer than initially thought, which was good for him. Please keep us posted and feel free to ask questions in POP too. We are here for you guys during this tough time.

I am so sorry you are all going through this, but it's good you have each other to lean on. I'm sure Beth needs you just as much as you need her right now. Please do keep us updated. I know each and every one of us here is rooting for both Beth and Drake. It sounds like the doctors are very on top of both of them. That's a good thing.
