I don't want to scare you or anything, just want you to be really careful and monitor like crazy, but with my last pregnancy, they hospitalized me at 27 weeks because my bp was high (150/100). I stayed for 5 days and everything got miracuously better. BP went down, protein went down. I felt great. They were talking about me going home when suddenly I got a terrible headache, then the flashing lights started. I got really sick really fast. Couldn't sit up and the headache was so bad I began throwing up. They induced me that day. My wonderful normal pressures went through the roof and after some labs, they determined I had developed HELLP syndrome. My pressures were so high that I had a complete placental abruption, despite being on IV meds to lower my pressure and mag.

I'm just saying that even though things are looking good, it doesn't mean you can relax, despite what the Dr's say. Keep checking your pressures, try to relax as much as possible and I would still insist upon a 24hr urine. Even if you aren't spilling much protein or your pressures aren't high, it gives a good baseline to go from.

Let us know how things go. Best of luck

Does your doctors office use a machine or do they do manual bp readings? I would still calibrate your machine against however they are taking your bp. Not just for your information but, for theirs as well. That way they can see for themselves that your bp monitor is giving you readings that are accurate. They may be more likely to believe that your pressures are really elevating when you say they are. Just a thought anyways!

Well, Im almost positive my BP monitor is correct. I can tell that my BP is up when it gets high. Thats when the visual disturbances happen more frequently, my heart races, and I can't catch my breath...even when resting. My monitor won't give a reading if the BP is higher than like 170/120....it gives an "ERR" message. The highest readings I got were in the 160s/100s. Most of last week I felt like I was going to pass out just walking to the restroom or to the kitchen. I am at a loss to explain how it just all of a sudden went away. But hey, if things get back to normal for me I won't complain.....but I sure don't understand. My pressures this weekend have been in the high 130s/80s. Which is good for me while pregnant. But this morning while trying to get ready for church...all of a sudden my heart started racing again and I couldn't catch my breath. I ended up throwing up and having to lay down. Didn't make it to church. I took a nap and this evening has been okay. And no, they didn't order a 24 hr urine test yet...because the BP was down, he said that the protein in the urine was probably nothing to worry about. I told him how high its been in the last 4 weeks but, he just said that he would keep an eye on it at my visits. I have another appt in 2 weeks....so I guess I will have to wait till then unless my BP goes back up. Then I plan on calling and asking them to do a 24 hr. Thanks alot of all your help ladies....you have been great!!

I'm glad that your bp was down at the Drs office. You may want to bring your bp monitor to your next appt and compare it against their bp readings. Sometimes your monitor can be off. As far as sounding like a complainer, you do have some hard evidence to back up your complaints. HBP even on meds, rising protein, and a placental abnormality are pretty good evidence that you either have pe or are at high risk for it. I don't think that it would be much of a stretch to believe that you could be experiencing other pe related symptoms. Try not to worry about it. Believe me, I have felt the same way but I was the most at peace when I didn't worry about what they thought of me.

That is great that your BP was low. Please just continue to monitor yourself and your symptoms. I have read several women that got better before it worsened. I truly hope that you are on the way to an uneventful rest of your pregnancy :) Just listen to your body and your baby and don't be afraid to report anything you are uncomfortable with. What was your protein? Did you do the 24 hr?
Good luck Allison

Just to update everyone....I switched OBs last week b/c no matter how many times I called and reported symptoms they always said "lay down...im sure your probably fine." My first appt with the new OB was yesterday (8/24). So the nurse comes and gets me....weighs me....I've lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks...???? Then they check my BP which has not been lower than 140/90 ALL WEEK LONG.....you will never guess.....114/80....WHAT?? My jaw dropped when she told me. I could not believe it. Bad news was that my protein was up from last appt. But I left there feeling like they must think that Im just a complainer that makes up things. The nurse and the doc were very very nice and made me feel comfortable. I asked the doc if he was concerned about the protein and he said that BECAUSE YOUR BP IS GOOD IM SURE ITS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT (he did say they would keep an eye on it though)...I was so frustrated. I mean, how can I have that much trouble all week, and then get to the docs and it just magically drops. I guess its good that it was down, but the fact that it is down is making the doc think all the other symptoms I have are not anything to worry about. I have another appt in 2 weeks....I guess we will see how it goes from here.....Maybe next appt there will be no protein and things will be back to normal...After that last appt, nothing will surprise me....

Ditto on everything everyone has already said. I hope all goes well! Listen to your body and don't be afraid to be your own advocate--no one else will! Good luck!!

Thinking of you and wondering how you are doing, your symptoms sound scary. I was hosptialized overnight with my 1st with pressure at 150/100. I hope that your appt Monday goes well and I hope that you get some testing. I agree about discussing things that you expect with the OB, maybe bring a printout of the signs/symptoms even to discuss. I hope things don't progress, take care.

Ditto on requesting a 24 hour urine and on making sure your OB is consulting with a perinatologist or a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. I'd be concerned with your symptoms. And don't worry about calling your doc too much. Your gut is a VERY good indication if something is wrong.

Keep us posted.

Are you seeing a high risk perinatologist who specializes and has more experience with these things? If not, I would look into finding one. Sounds like you need a full work up and to be watched closely. Good luck, wishing you well!
