Induction for mild preeclampsia?

I had c-section scheduled for as soon as they could get the surgery scheduled once I hit 37 weeks (it ended up being 37 weeks, three days) due to my mild preeclampsia. I ended up with a c-section because my baby was breech and positioned so that an induction wouldn't be a good idea. I think it was a blessing in disguise because the cord was wrapped around his neck 3 times and during the surgery the doctor discovered that my bicornuate uterus is really a septate uterus with a nearly complete septum.

I'd print out the abstract and take it to your doc -- and ask your doc what the reasoning is behind your care plan.

This is quite a new study, and it takes a while for all the research to trickle down to all of the care providers, so it's possible that your doc just hasn't seen this yet. Or that there's some reason to handle your case differently that we don't know about. :)

I am considered mild. BP's of 140/90ish and protein hovering right around 300. My dr says if I stay this way she wants me to get to 39 weeks. That makes me nervous...am I being overly worried??

i have already been in the hospital due to pre e and im only 21weeks i was in there in dec and the docs r talkin about inducin me at 36 weeks when i delivered last time my bp was 185/125 i hope everything turns out well for u both

Laura - a lot depends on hospital policy. My hospital will not induce before 39 weeks without a really good reason. Now there are many good reasons - but definitely have this conversation with your doctor to make sure you are on the same page.

lisa - I was told if my BPs stayed stable there would be no point in NOT inducing by 37 - 38 weeks at the latest. This is null and void now that my BPs are not cooperative - but it seems like it really is best to try to prevent the progression of the PE. Plus 37 weeks is considered term. Hopefully your body is nice and ready to cooperate at 37 weeks :)

Sad that you say that...one of the ladies in my support group lost a baby at 38 weeks due to cord accident! So many things to go wrong scares me!! So its good to know you can possibly be induced at 37 weeks!

Laura, one of the ladies in my support group lost a baby due to a cord accident sometime between 36-40 weeks. In her subsequent pregnancy the hospital allowed her to be induced at 37 weeks, but they required that she do an amnio to check for lung maturity first.

I agree! Conditions would not be given the chance to escalate if delivery is before EDD!
