Re : Protein in Urine
Hi, 2 years (after some pretty severe protein levels). Apparently not out of the norm at all - the body takes time to heal.
Re : Protein in Urine
This was very helpful - We are getting ready to TTC this month and I have now made a list of test to run prior to doing that! Guess you can't be to cautious...and frankly, these will ease my mind I am sure. Hope my OB goes for it!

Re : Protein in Urine
My MFM didn't care about my proteinuria. I dipped trace the whole pregnancy (until PE) and my baseline was 206 mg.
Re : Protein in Urine
My protein was never checked again. Perhaps I should ask to be checked to see where I am at.
Re : Protein in Urine
For what it's worth, my MFM had me do a baseline 24 hour right after my consult with some baseline bloodwork. From what I understand, they'll do it again once I'm pregnant.

Thanks so much :)
Re : Protein in Urine
Laura, my understanding is they use the 1st trimester 24hr urine as a baseline and if it is higher than normal your doctor will likely adjust your threshold for a diagnosis of PE. For example, if you are spilling 250 at 10 weeks, then even if you spill 300 at 20 weeks they probably won't consider it PE. They might decide to use 400 in your case for a diagnosis of PE.
I don't think your OB will mind ordering an additional test for you now even if she is going to do one later. I think most of them understand the trauma associated with a PE pregnancy, especially one that results in the loss of a child, and if nothing else, see it as treating the emotional side of things. In my case, we did a 24hr collection 2-3 months PP and again at 10 or 11 weeks gestation.

Re : Protein in Urine
Alright...I will call my OB office and request a baseline 24 hour.
The only thing is that my OB said that she would do that at my first appointment when I find out im pregnant?
Also if you do get pregnant and are still spilling protein what does that mean?

Re : Protein in Urine
I agree with Rosalinda. I would request a 24 hour urine. I don't remember my OB checking dip sticks postpartum, but I did a baseline 24hr collection around 2 or 3 months PP. My results came back under 150, so I was given the green light to TTC.

My internist is doing a Urine Analysis. She said if it comes back Trace she would have me sent to a nephrologist to have teh 24 hour done?
Should I call my OB if it comes back trace?
