see link - note no increase in perinatal problems or renal disease in women associated with glycosuria in pregnancy!

In my case, I know I have some mild to moderate kidney disease, most likely associated with infections as a child (reflux disease). I'm seen by the obstretric / renal specialists in the UK during pregnancy --- so it kind of fits, but doesn't mean you are starting off on the way to HELLP.

I think it might be connected to a kidney issue - but not to HELLP? [not an expert here though]

Jules this is not the 1st time I had sugar in my urine either. On other occassions, they pricked my finger to do a glucose test and was well within normal ranges. This time the doc wanted full bloodwork to see what is going on. I understand that about 1 out of 6 pregnant women actually spill sugar without any consequences during pregnancy. I just wonder if it is somehow connected to the HELLP syndrome and kidney issues associated with it.

Hi,

I've been having sugar in urine on and off since 20 weeks. Its varied from nothing to trace to 1+ or 2+. However, I've had the blood tests done many times too and everytime they have been consistently very very low i.e. I really do not seem to have gestational diabetes.

It just seems there is something slightly "off" with my kidneys spilling sugar whilst pregnant (never happened to me in my previous pregnancy). As I've had it nearly half this pregnancy with out it getting worse or appearing to cause any other problems, I've stopped worrying about it. I understand that this is common and not considered serious.

Hope this helps

Everything I've heard about sugar on the dipstick has been related to gestational diabetes. Both GD and preeclampsia are related to placental function and having GD is a risk factor, so maybe there's a connection?

Sugar in Urine?

So I have had headaches the last few days and my bp has been creeping up- but still not to 140/90. I called doc today and went in for BP check. BP was 133/80 (where it has been under 110/60s throughout most of pregnancy). They took it again before I left and it was 129/80 again. They also checked my urine and it turned out I have sugar in it, so they took blood to do labs.

I know that in pregnancy it means that the sugar is getting past the filtering of the kidneys- but can it be an indication of something else or associated with the kidney issues in HELLP?

Anyone know what that could mean? Is it just gestational diabetes they would be worried about? or is there something else they are looking for?
