This was just me. Failed the 1 hr (failed it last pg as well and asked to take it again instead of the 3 hr and failed it then as well) but went on both times to pass the 3 hr. I obviously did have Pre-E last pregnancy (or I wouldn't be on this site, right? ha!) but my body apparently doesnt break down glucose as fast as they'd like for the 1 hr. Just giving you hope that many of us go on to pass the 3 even if you fail the 1 hr.

I have read that both GD and Pre-E are placenta issues though - boo :( Hope you pass the 3 hr!!

Laura,
Sorry to hear you failed the 1 hour. In my last pregnancy i failed both the 1&3 hour tests. Hopefully you will pass the 3 hour. When I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes last time I was diet controlled for only about a week IIRC and then required 3X daily insulin injections. It wasn't fun but it was tolerable. As Caryn says, GD is just another way the placenta is mucking around with the pregnancy. I would do a search and look for responses from Caryn and I think you'll find what you are looking for. I know she answered it for me nicely back in 2007. When is your 3 hour? Keep us posted.

I passed the 1 hour with 134. But since that time, I have spilled sugar in my urine every appointment. However, when they do the glucose test- it comes back in normal range- 100-120. I was told they were only concerned with it causing the baby to be larger than he already is at this point. One of the docs in the practice told me to try to limit some carbs in my diet- but honestly that has not helped at all with the sugar in my urine at all.

My sister had 4 pregnancies- all healthy pregnancies- and failed the 1 hour every time. She always passed the 3 hour test. I would not worry too much about it yet. See how the 3 hour goes

I am not sure about risk factors if you do in fact have GD but I wanted to share that I failed my 1 hour by more than that and passed the 3 hour with flying colors. I hear it is really common.

Failed Glucose test and questions ***UPDATED

Postby l412angel » Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:54 am

I failed my one hour at 144, I guess cut off is 135...booo.

Can anyone tell me what it means if I fail the 3 hour...higher risk for pe? What other complications?

UGGGHHHHH...So went for my three hour...ended up during the second blood draw, throwing up all over myself. :( Test canceled. There is no way I will do this again. I got soo sick. Anyone else had this happen? Anyone know of any alternative suggestions?
