Protein in the urine and massive swelling, but normal BP?

Postby jec2b » Sat May 19, 2012 08:48 pm

I am 27 wks with my 5th child (4th pregnancy...first are twins) and I'm starting to get a bit concerned. I've been swelling quite a bit in the last couple weeks. I've gained 7 lbs in the last 2 days and tonight I dipped positive for protein. My normal BP is 90/50, and tonight's is 108/55.

My first pregnancy (the twins) I had protein levels of 1500, HELLP syndrome and complete abruption at 31 wks. But my BP never got higher than 130/80. My second pregnancy I again developed PIU, around 800, and massive swelling, but still normal BP, although it was 30 points higher than my baseline. They called it mild PE. I was diagnosed at 25 wks but delivered at 37 wks, with complete bedrest.

I am on the same path? Why is it that I spill protein and swell but I don't get the high BP? I plan on doing a 24 hour urine tomorrow, and probably some baseline bloodwork too. I have already done a baseline 24 urine that was 132, when I was around 12 wks.

I had normal bp up until all * broke lose, post partum. My current dr says you need any 3 symptoms to be diagnosed. I have 2 symptoms now, one being pih. it sounds like you have it to me.

Just wondering how your labs came back. I hope all well and you'll be able to cook baby safely for much longer.

My protein levels went up to 400. My peri put me on complete bedrest, thankfully at home. She explained it very well, and she thinks I am on my way to PE. So here I lay! I am hopeful still that I can go to full term. Good news is that baby had excellent growth and is at 73rd percentile (we are tall people!). Bedrest is hard with little kids at home. I hired a nanny to start next week. :)
