Postpartum BP question and update

Hi friends,

I had mild pre-e with my son, who was born on 7-24 by emergency c-section. They tried me off of BP medicine after delivery, but it did not go down and I have been on 200 mg labetalol in the few weeks since. I have stopped it as of today (dr's orders) to see what happens. I've been getting consistent readings at 120/90. Top # is ok but bottom is still high.

I know each person is different, but I would like some general feedback about how BP's resolved postpartum from fellow pre-e moms if it did not resolve in the first couple of weeks.

Thanks in advance.

It took about 6 wks for mine to go down to normal. Although, even today without meds it is still a more high normal for me.

After my daughter was born, my BP spiked a week postpartum even on the max dose of Aldomet. It gradually came down over the next few weeks to my new baseline.

We tried to wean totally off meds a couple of times but I still was getting some diastolic pressures in the 90s. My GP said that she was fine if my diastolic was in the 80s/lower 90s but some were in the upper 90s. So she reccomended I stay on a low dose of BP meds to lower my long-term cardiovascular risks. I'm still hopeful that if I loose all the extra "baby weight" I gained I will be able to wean off BP meds totally.

I also noticed after my second that I was salt-sensitive. If I ate out I was more likely to have higher pressures.

We have had posters who reported returning to normal pressures within hours, weeks, or even months after delivery, though some like me stay on BP meds.

Good luck!

I'm 2 months PP, I also had some spikes in the first few weeks, and weaned from medication at about 3-4 weeks. My BP is still higher than it was pre-pregnancy, but I think this just might be my new normal- it would be pretty normal for other folks. My doctor said I'm still mild hypertensive, and now am transferring my care to my PCP to decide how we will monitor and manage my BP long term.
