Panic attack or pre-e?

Hello. I am 38 weeks pregnant with Baby #3 (but Baby #1 with my current husband). I started with excessive weight gain and pretty bad edema about 6 weeks ago. About 4 weeks ago, I started with nausea and vomitting leading to dehydration and then fainting. I see a midwife group who does not check my urine so I do not know if there is protein in it or not. My blood pressure has been slowly climbing and is at about 130/80 right now (it was running lower than this pre-pregnancy). I have been feeling a bit worried but this morning at work I had this awful panic, this sense of impending doom I read about. I don't know if I am just working myself up or what. I do have a family history of pre-e (in my sister). I am not to see the midwife until Friday morning. Not sure what I should do. I just have this bad feeling.

The feeling of doom can be sign that something is up. It is not measurable, but my doctors always ask me to report such feelings. I would not hesitate and go to labor and delivery, or your doctor to be seen. I think it would be important that your urine and BP are checked and possibly get some blood work done to check on your liver and kidney functions.

I also don't like the vomiting you are mentioning.

I had one of the nurses i work with take my blood pressure and it was 160/110. So now I am at L&D.

Glad that you went to L&D. Let us know how it goes, so you are able. Will be thinking of you.

So, the doctors and nurses I work with were very concerned about my high blood pressure, so they drove me to the nearest L&D (I see a midwife group affiliated with anothe hospital further away). The local L&D did a pre-e work-up and checked my BP again and said I was good for discharge and just follow-up later this week with my midwife. Well, I really just didn't feel comfortable with that. So, I talked to me midwife and she said to come to see her right then (it was about 7:30pm at this point). So, we drove to the other hospital and they re-did some of the tests and checked me out. She decided I was okay, but she's concerned things could turn bad pretty quickly. I work 80 hours a week right now. So, she decided not to clear me to go back to work and put me on home bed rest. I'm going to see a perinatologist on Thursday and see what he thinks. In the meantime I am checking my BP at home daily. I'm really glad the midwife is taking my concerns seriously. Hopefully we can avoid things taking a turn for the worse before delivery.

I am so glad to hear that you are in good hands and your MW is so careful. If anything feels off and/or you feel worse, your BP goes up, please don't wait and get checked again.

Yes so good to hear. I am glad you will be on rest now, it may make all the difference for you. Keep us posted.
